April 8, 2018 Deuteronomy 27,28; Romans 4:16-5:5

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Be Careful | Kimi Miller

S~ If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of Israel. Deuteronomy 28:1 (NLT) (emphasis mine)

O~ And carefully follow all his commands.  Seriously?  All of them?  Was this even possible?  Have you read through the law?!  When I look back over all that the Israelites had to do to make and keep themselves right with God, it appears impossible.  It was impossible!  But God still cautions us to be careful.  If you carefully follow…

Carefully (adv.):  exercising or taking care; marked by attentive concern or solicitude.

God warns the Israelites to exercise attentiveness in their actions.  He doesn’t want them to get into a routine where his commands can be done without thought or care.  He wants them to be concerned with their approach and the condition of their heart.

He wants the same for me.

A~ Because of Jesus, the OT law is no longer applicable to me.  But I believe God still wants me to carefully follow all his commands – His commands to love others well through the love He has given me, and to share the message of His son.

P~ Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for your Word.  Please help me, Holy Spirit, to carefully obey my Father’s commands.  I love you. Amen

Trials are good for us! | Luisa Penaherrera

S~ We can rejoice too, when we run into problems and trials- for we know that they are good for us- they help us learn to endure. And endurance develops strength of character in us, and character strengthens our confident expectation of salvation.  Romans 5:3,4 (NLT)

O~ Well when you put it that way! Problems and trials are not comfortable, not fun but this is what you use to help me learn to endure.

Endure—suffer (something painful or difficult) patiently, go through, live through, withstand

A~  My husband and I are doing this couch to 5k training called Run For God.  The book parallels running with our spiritual walk. There are 3 workouts each week and each week progresses a little at a time. This week’s workout starts with a warm-up walk then several intervals of 5 minute running then 3 minute walk, finishing with a cool down walk.  Every time we run, I know it is going to be for a certain amount of time and then the timer beeps and we can walk (Yay!). In life there is no timer that is going to tell me when the trial will end, and with no end in sight I tend to lose hope.  This verse reminds me that you’re doing a work with those trials and I don’t see the timer, but it is in your hands.  My part is to let you do the work and trust that you see me, you know what you’re doing and it is for good in my life and you’re helping me through it, as I stay connected to you.

P~  Heavenly Father,  running is helping me learn to endure longer periods of running between walks as well as to pace myself.  In the trials and problems that come my way, you want me to learn that too.  Help me remember that you have the timer in your hand and its not going to last forever—but also that it is something good you are doing with them. Thank you, in Jesus’ name. Amen
