“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Purge the Evil | Kim Chipman
S~ …You must purge the evil from among you. Deuteronomy 22:21 (NIV)
O~ So. Many. Rules. Ugh! God had rules on top of rules for when they entered the Promised Land. This particular verse is embedded in a section about sexual sin, but reading all the rules and restrictions for everything is exhausting. I am SO thankful I live in a time post – Jesus. I’m also reminded how much I NEED Jesus.
A~ This rings very applicable today, though. The reason for the rules and restrictions is to purge the evil. I think You still want me to do that. While I don’t need to follow rules or perform a certain way to earn Your approval or salvation, following You should put up some guardrails on my behavior. You hate evil. You want it purged. It’s part of Your character.
P~ Lord, help me to honor You in this way, by purging the evil from my life. This will be a continual challenge, but very necessary. I love You!
Conscious of Sin | Kelley Deases
S~ Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather through the law we become conscious of sin. Romans 3:20 (NIV)
O~ If we are justified not by adherence to the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ, then why do we still need the law? For one thing, to remind us how we fall pitifully short so that we might keep a right perspective on our own depravity in contrast to God’s holiness and thus ever be aware of our need for a Savior.
A~ A young lady recently joined a Bible study I facilitate in my home. She describes how she was very rebellious and misguided in her youth, but now seems very open and sincere in her desire to follow God’s plan for her life. As she continued to share, we soon realized there are some glaring areas of sin she has embraced which are obvious to the mature believers in our circle but about which she seems oblivious. Our approach has not been to point out these indiscretions or judge her in any way. We simply and lovingly accept her where she is into our number, try to answer any questions she raises, and encourage her in her brand new practice of reading The Word. I am confident that as she continues to seek after God and fellowship with His people, the Holy Spirit will begin to work in her life to reveal truth and guide her in making better choices. As He does with all of us.
P~ Father, Thank You for not leaving any of us in the found You found us in, but for calling us to something better suited a Child of the King.
