“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Good enough | Kelley Deases
S~ “‘If we have found favor in your eyes,’ they said, ‘let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.’” Number 32:5 (NIV)
O~ In essence, what these two Israelite tribes, the Reubenites and Gadites, are asking of Moses is that they be allowed to remain to the east of the Jordan River and not join the other tribes as they enter into the Promised Land. They are saying, “We’re fine. Leave us be. You all go on ahead.” Moses is incensed at their request, given that he has been told he will not be allowed in, but these people are voluntarily choosing not to go!
A~ The scene really depicts the quintessential struggle we limited and short-sighted humans have with claiming the promises of God. He calls us to a land flowing with milk and honey. He calls us to abundant life. He calls us to freedom. But we so often respond with, “I’m good here.” “Sounds kinda scary.” “I’m familiar with my surroundings.” But we may miss out. We may receive His gift of salvation, but not get to experience the very great adventure He has in store.
P~ God, Right now You seem to be doing some “pruning back” of distractions and pursuits in my own and my husband’s life. We pray to be open to how You choose for us to fill those spaces and which direction You would set for us and our family. We are at a place that is more than “good enough,” but we are believing for even better things on the other side of the Jordan.
You, Above All Else | Luisa Penaherrera
S~ A number of them who had been practicing magic brought their incantation books and burned them at a public bonfire. The value of the books was several million dollars. Acts 19:19 (NLT)
O~ What seemed important and valuable before, held no more value and importance when in your presence.
A~ I want to be so connected to you, Lord, that you are bigger and everything else is in its proper order.
P~ Dear Father, my desire of where I want to be and where I actually am don’t seem to match up. Please show me the way. Keep me close to you and show me how to stay close to you. I love you.
Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
Kelley, this is so spot on. It’s so sad to realize we are the ones limiting ourselves by worry and lack of trust and we settle thinking “good enough” is enough. I’ve got a new vision to keep dreaming and believing in the gift of the Promiseland. It also reaffirms that we need to MOVE when the pillar of fire moves, we won’t ever get to the Promiseland by sitting around and talking about it.
Thanks for your insight!
