Our Gifts Are His Food | Joni Tyner

S~  “The offerings you present as special gifts are a pleasing aroma to me; they are my food. See to it that they are brought at the appointed times and offered according to my instructions. “ Numbers 28:2  (NLT)

O~ As I read, (okay I kinda skimmed)  over Numbers 27 and 28, a couple of things struck me.  God is asking us to bring Him a variety of different gifts and they are pleasing to Him, they are His food.  Just like humans need food, God is telling us that our gifts are food to Him. Wow.  I wonder how often He feels like I do on a diet, starved for the good stuff ?  The real, meaningful stuff?   These two chapters go into great detail about daily offerings, Sabbath offerings, monthly offerings,  and special offerings that were for celebration- like the Festival of Trumpets and the Festival of Shelters.  There is great detail to bring worthy sacrifices.  Some examples were each Sabbath required two one-year-old lambs with no defects and a monthly offering of two young bulls, one ram and seven one-year-old male lambs, all with no defections.  There are many instructions and details about the 7 day festival of Passover.  Lots of detail of what to offer the Lord.

A~ I’m still new at reading the Bible daily. I’ve never done it before and I’ve been in church my entire life.  I’m familiar with common scriptures that are used in sermons and Sunday School but I’m being honest when I say that I’ve never been interested with some of the Old Testament that seems a bit boring and repetitive. So… I read this and what I saw was how important it is to God for His people to honor Him. He wants us to willingly bring Him our best—of course we aren’t showing up at church each week with a flock of lambs, but we should bring Him something that costs us something.  He wants what matters to us. Our time, our attention, and yes, our money.  He doesn’t need it, He wants it because it represents our willingness to give something valuable, a sacrifice to Him. I don’t want to leave Him wondering if there is ever going to be a pleasing aroma from me—that makes me sad to think I leave my Lord disappointed and “hungry” for my gifts.

P~ Dear Lord, Help me to continue to press forward reading scriptures that challenge my attention span and apply it to my life.  I want to sacrificially give to You, to honor you in every aspect of my life. Thank you for this reminder that my gifts to You are important.

Habits | Kim Chipman

S~ As was his custom… Acts 17:2

O~ It was customary – habit – for Paul to go to the synagogue. This got me thinking about what my habits are. Then thinking about what Jesus’ habits are.

A~ Are my habits anything like Jesus’ habits? What do I need to change to look more like Him?

Habits that come to mind…

  1. Solitary time with the Father – Mt 26:36, Mk 1:35, Lk 5:16, Lk 4:42
  2. Rest – Mk 6:31, Mt 14:13
  3. Interruptions met with grace and patience – Lk 5:17-19, Lk 8:22-24, Lk 8:43, Lk 12:11-21, Mk 1:35-39, Mk 10:46-52

P~ I want my habits to reflect You, to honor You, and to draw me near to You. These 3 things I need to work on. Consistently. Daily. Routine. Habit. My custom. Help my time in Your Word and in prayer to truly transform my life to look like Yours in attitudes, thoughts, words, and actions. Mold me. Change me. I love You!
