“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Expose and Repent | Kim Chipman
S~ The Lord said to Moses, “Take all the leaders of these people, kill them and expose them in broad daylight before the Lord, so that the Lord’s fierce anger may turn away from Israel.” Numbers 25:4 (NIV)
O~ The Israelite men got involved in sexual immorality with Moabit women, who invited them to the sacrifices to their gods. My study Bible says: “At first they didn’t think about worshiping idols; they were just interested in sex. Before long they started attending local feasts and family celebrations that involved idol worship. Soon they were in over their heads, absorbed into the practices of the pagan culture. Their desire for fun and pleasure caused them to loosen their spiritual commitment.”
This made the Lord’s anger burn against them. The remedy? Expose the sin. Bring it into the light. (and kill it)
A~ Things that prick my heart today:
- It’s really easy for me to loosen my spiritual commitment in my desire for fun and pleasure. It’s easy for one compromise to lead to another and land me out in left field.
- Sin makes You angry.
- Exposing sin in broad daylight and repenting of it turns Your anger away.
P~ Lord, help me to see areas of unrepented sin in my life and help me to expose that sin to the light. Help me to maintain my spiritual guardrails so I don’t drift off track. I want my life to honor You. I love You!
Seek | Kimi Miller
S~ One of them was Lydia from Thyatira, a merchant of expensive purple cloth who worshiped God. As she listened to us, the Lord opened her heart, and she accepted what Paul was saying. Acts 16:14 (NLT)
O/A~ Lydia was seeking God, and He met her there. She went out to where she could find Him, and He met her there through Paul and Silas. Just as Your word promises, when we seek you with our whole heart, we WILL find you. Seek is my word for 2018. As I continue seeking You, I know I will find You in greater ways than I can imagine.
P~ Thank You for Your faithfulness, Lord. Thank You for not hiding Yourself from me. I love You.
