March 18, 2018 Numbers 23,24; Acts 15
“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Committed Resolve | Kim Chipman
S~ ‘Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the Lord—and I must say only what the Lord says’? Numbers 24:13 (NIV)
O~ Balaam was sent to deliver messages from the Lord to Balak. Balak was king of Moab and wanted Balaam to put a curse on the Israelites. Balaam was a sorcerer, but God used him. God appeared to Balaam on his journey and spoke to him through his donkey – then through an angel. Balak wanted to bribe Balaam (sorcerers would gladly take bribes!) but after his encounter with the donkey and angel he was committed to “speak only what God puts in my mouth”.
The story of Balaam is quite a conversion from the dark side to being resolved to listen to and obey the Lord. The message he is asked to deliver turns out to be pretty unpopular.
A~ I want to have this same committed resolve. Like Balaam I have encountered You on my journey. The angel said to Balaam, “I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me.” I’ve heard this same message from You before. Without Your guidance I am reckless. I need to resolve to allow You to guide me – especially to only say what You would have me say because my mouth is truly reckless on its own without You.
P~ Lord, help me. Whether it’s popular or not, comfortable or not, convenient or not, help me to keep my resolve to only speak what honors You. Help me to ALWAYS speak truth in love. Help me to listen for Your voice before I speak. Give me the self discipline necessary to keep this resolve and bring You glory through my life. I love You!
You Know My Heart, and Love Me Still | Kimi Miller
S~ God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. Acts 15:8 (NLT)
O~ Peter is reminding the Apostles and elders that God cares for the Gentiles, too, and that circumcision is not necessary to be saved. He began with reminding them, “God knows people’s hearts…”
A~ You know my heart. You know my desire to please You, but You also know my selfish ambitions, my pride, my desire to please man… You know it all. And yet, You still love me. How can this be? For You are holy and righteous – untouchable – and yet, You desire me to reach out and touch You – to be with You. Truly this is real love – You see my heart, and still love me. You still want ALL of me.
P~ I invite You in, Father. You can have my whole heart – the good, bad, beautiful, ugly – all of it. Have Your way, Lord. I love you.
