March 14, 2018 Numbers 14-16; Acts 11

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Love and Justice | Kim Chipman

S~ The Lord is slow to anger and filled with unfailing love, forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion. But He does not excuse the guilty. He lays the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected – even children in the third and fourth generations. Numbers 14:18 (NLT)

O~ The Israelites are complaining, as usual, and God wants to wipe them all out with a plague. Moses is pleading for God to spare them and reminds Him of His own words here.

A~ Oh, how I see myself in the Israelites! You have clearly had enough of their whining, complaining and desire to return to slavery in Egypt. This statement is a reminder that You are a just God. You are slow to anger, filled with unfailing love, and forgive every kind of sin. You do not, however, excuse it. There are consequences for sin. I know this is the old covenant, but I also know that You are still just. You want my heart to be repentant. I would never want my children to be affected, but I know they can be and are!

P~ Lord, thank You for Jesus, for Your unfailing love and for Your justice. Thank You for Your mercy and grace that I so desperately need and am deeply grateful for. I pray I would remain humble and teachable that my life would glorify You. I love You~

We Are Family | Kelley Deases

S~ Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother. Mark 3:35 (NIV)

O~ As Jesus set out to preach and reach a hurting world, His earthly family thought he was going mad. [In their defense, I would think my brother was crazy, too, if he started saying he was the Son of God!]  When Jesus was teaching before a crowd, the family sent for Jesus to call him home.  He answered with the question, “Who are my mother and my brothers?”

A~ On our “Love Like You Mean It” Marriage Cruise, my husband and I were so struck by the vast difference between our last cruise and this one.  While it was the same cruise line, same ship, same time of year, and a nearby destination, our previous trip, taken for our honeymoon eight years ago, was not a Christian-based conference. This time we were traveling with 2,000 like-minded believers — brothers and sisters in Christ.  As we struck up conversations with other cruisers, we heard amazing testimonies of how God brought husbands and wives together, we met pastors sent on vacation by their church homes, chatted with couples who have opened their homes to foster and adopt children, and encountered people just generally passionate about pursuing God-honoring marriages.  It was a breath of fresh air! Though we knew no one as we set out from Miami, we shared a common bond with everyone on board — we serve the same Lord.  Don’t even get me started on the corporate worship…it was a glimpse of what heaven must be like!

P~ Lord, Thank you for a chance to get away and recharge our marriage.  But also for the unexpected blessing of connecting with so many brothers and sisters in Christ.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
