March 11, 2018 Numbers 8,9; Acts 9:19b-43

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. S~ Give Aaron the following instructions: When you set up the seven lamps in the lampstand, place them so their light shines forward in front of the lampstand. Numbers 8:2 (NLT)

O~ The Lord is giving Moses very specific instructions for setting up the Tabernacle. When I think of a lamp on a lampstand I think of a light shining all around…like a candle on a candlestick I guess…not light in a specific direction. The lamps in the Tabernacle shone light in a specific direction, apparently. And you specifically wanted them shining forward, in front of the lampstand.

A~ When I think of your presence in my life I think of light. I would think You would want to illuminate my life in front – looking forward, not behind – providing light for the path ahead. This means the past would be in the dark – I can’t see it AND the path in front of me, just one or the other. While I need to learn from past experiences the path in front of me is where I’m headed, what I can still influence and choose. I need You there.

P~ Thank You for sending Jesus to free me from the law and all the rules, rules, rules! Thank You for not leaving me to wander in the dark, but for lighting the path you want me to take. Give me the strength and courage to follow it. I love You.

It’s Time To Move | Kimi Miller

S~ Sometimes the cloud stayed only overnight and lifted the next morning. But day or night, when the cloud lifted, the people broke camp and moved on. Numbers 9:21 (NLT)

O~ Whenever God moved, the people moved. And moving the Tabernacle was no easy task – it’s not like it was a small tent! It was 150′ x 75′ and there were very specific rules for handling each article that was part of it. And yet, Your word says, “But day or night , when the cloud lifted, the people broke camp and moved on” (emphasis mine). (I gripe when I have to get up after just sitting down…I can’t imagine having to disassemble a ginormous tent after just assembling it less than a day before! Let alone packing everything inside it back up again, too!)

A~ How many times have I just settled down after cleaning the house, or finishing a large task or job, thinking I was done, only to find out it was already time to do it all over again. (Like we don’t actually “live” in our house, and it will remain clean forever… if only!)

I used to grumble more about these things, but I’m finding myself grumbling less and less, and instead searching for You more and more. I still grumble (I am human), but I’m learning to simply “be” in the moment – that place where You have me. I’m learning to move only after You move first. I’m learning it’s not about getting something done so I can move on to the next thing, but rather it’s about being obedient to You in the moment. It’s about experiencing Your presence in the moment.

You have invited me into this beautiful season of rest…and restoration. You have given me a true gift – a blessing from Your hand. While my own thoughts and planning would have me ‘stay here’ or ‘go there’ to prepare me for the next thing, Your presence leads me to prepare for the moment – where I am and where You are. You lead me into love and peace – sometimes found only after seasons of wilderness wanderings.

But I can trust that when it’s time, You will tell me when it’s time to move.

P~ Thank You, Yahweh, for knowing what is best for me. Thank you for rescuing me – for calling me away to Yourself. Let me cherish this moment…forever. Amen
