Recognizing Jesus | guest post

S~ The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures.  They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. Acts 4:13(NLT)

O~ The members of the council were Annias, the high priest, Caiaphas (the high priest when Jesus was crucified), and some others.  That’s a powerful group of religious people!

Peter and John are described as bold, ordinary people, no training in the Word, and as people who had been with Jesus.

A~ To be recognized as one who has spent time with Jesus, one must spend time with Him.  That’s funny……makes sense and seems like a no brainer statement 🙂

I want to be someone who has been with Jesus, just like Peter and John.  How?

Spend time in prayer, read His words, follow His life, do what He says.

P~ Father, forgive me!  I have not been spending time with Jesus.

Cannot Help Speaking | Kelley Deases

S~ As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20 (NIV)

O~ The high priests were growing concerned. Watching these unschooled men, the disciples of Jesus, speak with such authority and perform miracles with such power. So they decided to command these men not to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. The above verse is Jesus’ response. He says they cannot do otherwise but to speak upon the name of Christ.

A~ What a sad commentary on my own life that I do not take every opportunity to speak and act in His Name, to give Him the glory in everything. And my freedom and life are not in jeopardy if I do! Yet, for me, maybe I just don’t want to take the time out of my day to reflect His goodness and share His truth with others. What could I have to do, really, that is any more pressing?

P~ God, You seem to be underscoring this theme of being bold and speaking up. All my recent Scripture verses appear to point to this. Lord, show me who and when and where, and give me Your words when the time comes.
