Do Not Be An Imitator!! | Joni Tyner

S~ “So do not act like the people in Egypt, where you used to live, or like the people of Canaan, where I am taking you. You must not imitate their way of life.” Leviticus 19:3  (NLT)

O~ Leviticus 19 goes into great detail about abstaining for many different sexual sins. What struck me was how the sins that these people were struggling with are some of the same issues we see today in our culture.  Lack of purity and exclusiveness in marriage is unfortunately not valued in today’s culture. It really is everywhere.  God is calling His people to a higher standard. We are NOT to act like those in our culture. We are NOT to imitate them, glorify them.

A~ In this day and age, Christians are ridiculed and criticized for having God’s standard in sexual purity. We have seen public Christians beat up by media for believing and saying they believe in the marriage of a women and a man. It bombards us and our children in tv, music, (holy cow!!!! The music industry is off the charts with promoting sexual freedom) it’s at our workplace.  How do we walk that delicate line of not judging others for their lifestyle, yet hold to our beliefs and perhaps even influence others to re-think their position on sexual purity?  I certainly don’t do it perfectly and struggle to convey this to my teenage daughters. I’ve told them to expect criticism and ridicule because we do things differently. It won’t always be pleasant. It take courage, it takes lots of courage to go against the culture in this area.

P~ Lord, I wish this wasn’t such a big issue. But it is. It really, really is. I need your Holy Spirit to guide me in my conversations with others in this specific area. I don’t want to push others away from You. Please don’t let me get “gray” in this area and start to accept things that you’ve called us to not be a part of.  I need your wisdom in parenting!! Give me strength to when the battle against the culture. Renew me when I’m exhausted and feel beat up. I want to give You glory. Please give me strength to run the race in parenting in today’s culture.

Feeling defeated | Nikki Metzger

S~ Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!”  Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall.   Psalm 13:4 (NLT)

O~ The author of this Psalm, David, was down when writing this.  Feeling defeated, sad, and struggling.

A~ Oh, I am there today!  Feeling defeated, sad, and struggling.  Feeling like my enemy is standing over me with arms crossed looking down on me smiling pretty smug and saying, “We’ve got Nikki, we’ve stopped her progress, took away her hope of ever being back on track to lose weight.”

P~ Lord, don’t let my enemy gloat!  Don’t let me defeated!  Don’t let my enemies rejoice at my downfall!  I brought myself here Lord, but I need You!  Give me strength to say no when temptation comes my way!  Please, don’t let me be defeated!  In Jesus’ Name I pray!  Amen!

Perpetual Repentance | Kim Chipman

S~ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38 (NIV)

O~ People were moved when they realized who Jesus was. They were convicted to act. Repenting means turning away from sin and toward God.

A~ I feel like this is a perpetual heart place – repenting and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. I know the Holy Spirit is with me and lives in me always as a believer, but I feel Him and enjoy the gift of His presence much more when I am in a heart place of repentance. It’s easy to drift away from repentance into pride and self sufficiency.

P~ Thank You for this reminder today. Help me to continually keep my heart turned away from sin and towards You. I love You!
