“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. You know Lord! | guest post

S~ On the eighth day the boy’s foreskin must be circumcised.   Leviticus 12:3 (NLT)

O~ Wow!  Leviticus is filled with a lot of rules and regulations.  I can’t imagine keeping it all straight in my head. This verse stuck out to me because I used to help out doctors with circumcision.

Babies are given a shot of Vitamin K at birth to help with their blood clotting.  If a boy is circumcised in the hospital, it is crucial to make sure he had this shot, so he didn’t bleed a lot during the procedure. Brand new babies who never get the Vitamin K shot eventually establish the blood clotting in their blood, but not ’till day 7 of life!  So isn’t it interesting that God orders His people to circumcise on the 8th day once the the blood clotting business is fully developed in the baby?

A~ Lord, this law makes sense to me now.  Your people didn’t have Vitamin K shots.  And I’m confused and overwhelmed with what is clean and unclean and everything else that I’m reading in Leviticus, but I get this law!  But You know why You established all the laws and procedures.  I see that You are protecting Your people from whatever they can’t see or couldn’t know as You were establishing them as a people, setting them apart from other nations.

Today too, You are trying to protect me.  When You tell me to forgive, You know what happens in my heart if I don’t forgive; I grow cold, nasty, and bitter.  You tell me to love others like myself.  When I do that, You release any selfishness in my heart that has started to grow.

P~ Thank You for protecting Your people and me too with Your truth, Word, and laws!  And thanks for letting me be born this side of Jesus and not before!  Perfect timing, as always 🙂

Indignant | Kim Chipman

S~ The disciples were indignant when they saw this. “What a waste!” they said. Matthew 26:8 (NLT)

O~ Jesus was at Simon’s home eating when a woman came with expensive perfume and poured it on Him. The disciples weren’t too happy about it, but Jesus saw her heart of sacrifice for Him and He knew that act had a purpose.

A~ I’ve never noticed before that it was the disciples who were indignant. The people closest to Jesus missed it. They thought she was wasteful. I tend to be quite frugal. I could easily be just like the disciples ~ assuming I knew better and indignant about waste. I don’t know anyone’s heart any more than they did. But You do. My job is to get MY heart right. If the people closest to You could miss it then I’m sure I could, too. Who do I think I am, anyway? My own self is plenty to worry about. Sheesh.

P~ Lord, help me to get my own heart right with You and worry less about anyone else’s heart, motives or actions. I am accountable to You and so is everyone else. You and I both know I have plenty of my own mess to work on. I love You!
