February 22, 2018 Leviticus 3,4; Matthew 22

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

Come To The Table | Joni Tyner

S~ But the guests he had invited ignored them and went their own way, one to his farm, another to his business. Matthew 22:5 (NIV)

Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.  So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike and the banquet hall was filled with guests. Matthew 22:9-10 (NLT)

O~ Jesus is telling a parable (made up story) about a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son.  He invited (I’m assuming) friends, family, and professional associates to the wedding but they ignored the invitation.  He then tells his servants to go out to the streets and invite everyone they meet. These people were eager to come to the wedding feast.

My Bible notes for this scripture explain that this refers to God giving out invitations to join Him at His table—(the table refers to heaven/ his Kingdom).  We receive invitations many times but sadly many people ignore the invitation by doing their own thing.  In verse 9 and 10, the king invites the unexpected, “the good and bad alike”—and they respond to the invitation.

A~ This parable really tugs at my heart strings because the Lord is seeks us out to bless us and so many just ignore the invitation by doing their own thing.  It is a picture of God’s grace, His reaching out to us.  It reminds me a new song by Sidewalk Prophets that I absolutely love, “Come to the Table”.  God’s offer is to all—one of the lyrics says, “join the motley crew of misfits”.   As I watched the video, I particularly loved how they illustrated God’s table—it wasn’t how I pictured it, yet, it was so much better and so much more accurate of what I think He is talking about.  It is a beautiful visual of God’s Kingdom here on earth.  I invite you to watch the video, and accept the invitation to “come to the table.”

P~ Dear Lord, thank you for inviting me to Your Table.   Please remove any judgement in my heart for others who are invited, help me to see people with the same lens that You do.  Thank you for Your endless grace.  I pray for a never ending hunger to be in Your Word.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com

  1. Thanks so much! I immediately thought of that song when I read the scripture and so I found the video–then I liked it even more! As I read and study God’s Word, I am realizing more and more the importance of “His Kingdom” on earth. Our blessings of being His children aren’t just tickets to heaven but the invitation to live an abundant life here on earth.

Thanks once again for reading and taking time to share your thoughts. Have a beautiful day. 🙂

  2. Joni, your posting today was wonderful. Thank you for inviting me to share a meal from the table of your perspective on our Father’s words and invitation. Beautiful !
