February 17, 2018 Exodus 34,35; Matthew 17

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

God needs everyone!! | Joni Tyner

S~ “All whose hearts were stirred and whose spirits were moved came and brought their sacred offerings to the Lord. They brought all the materials needed for the Tabernacle, for the performance of its rituals, and for the sacred garments.” Exodus 35:21  (NLT)

O~ Exodus 35 goes into great detail about all the materials needed to build the Tabernacle. What struck me was how everyone got involved and brought what they could. They contributed their skills as seamstresses and construction workers. Some people would spin the yarn.  Others contributed the materials such as different types of thread, spices, oils. Both men and women contributed to the building of the Tabernacle.  God also specifically gave some the gift of teaching to mentor others with their skills.

(31: “The Lord has filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, giving his great wisdom, ability, and expertise in all kinds of crafts.”   34: “And the Lord has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach their skills to others.”)

A~ We have gifts and skills that can be used by the body of Christ. Some can contribute more material things, others are skilled and can help by doing manual labor and teaching others.  “Many hands make for easy work.”  God needs us all to contribute to His Kingdom work, and to the local church body. This is not just a calling for the few, but EVERYONE. Young, old, male and female.

P~ Lord help me to desire and willingly contribute to your Kingdom work. Help me to identify my best skills and gifts so that I may use my time, talents, and energy to most effectively serve You.

One Thing…ONE! | Kim Chipman

S~  Peter exclaimed, “Lord, it’s wonderful for us to be here! If you want, I’ll make three shelters as memorials—one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” Matthew 17:4 (NLT)

O~ My study bible says: ” Peter wanted to build 3 memorials for these 3 great men. Peter had the right idea about Christ, but his timing was wrong. Peter wanted to act, but this was a time for worship and adoration. He wanted to memorialize the moment, but he was supposed to learn and move on.”

A~ Oh, PETER! I feel you, dude. It’s hard for me to “just” sit, adore, worship. I always feel like I have to DO something! Gah! My being and experiencing and relationship isn’t enough.

My battle of enough. Ugh! This is yet another reminder that You don’t always need me to DO…sometimes You just want me to experience, know, and enjoy You. Like Martha I tend to feel like I need to scurry. But even then your reminder is…”There is only one thing worth being concerned about.” (Lk 10:42)

One Thing. ONE. Sitting with You. Listening to You.

P~ Thank You for reminding me. Again. I may be a recovering do-aholic but I AM recovering…slowly…I love You!

(If you are a recovering do-aholic like me, you might be just a little convicted by this Jennifer Rothschild blog post, check it out!)
