Set Apart | Kim Chipman

S~ How will anyone know that You look favorably on me – on me and on Your people – if You don’t go with us? For Your presence among us sets Your people and me apart from all other people on earth. Exodus 33:16 (NLT)

O~ The Lord told Moses to take the people to the Promised Land, but He didn’t want to travel with them because they were stubborn and rebellious and He would destroy them. Moses asked God to stay with them – His presence set them apart.

A~ The same should be true for me and the family of believers now. Your presence within me should set me apart from all other people on earth. I should be different because Your Spirit is within me. The fruit of the Spirit should be the hallmark of my life. I should covet Your presence even more than all the Promised Land flowing with milk and honey has to offer. Is this true for me? If heaven and all it’s comfort and awesomeness were promised to me but You weren’t there would that be ok? Do I really want more of You or just Your blessings? Am I focused on You or me? Your character or my comfort?

P~ Lord, You see my heart. Help me to know You more intimately so my heart desires YOU and not just pleasure/comfort/blessings for ME. My desire is to honor and glorify You. Help me to intimately know and desire YOU. Purify my selfish heart. I love You.

S~ I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. Psalm 16:7 (NIV)

O/A~  God can and will use anything to teach us what we need to know. He introduced me to The Divine Mentor and the SOAP method a few years ago to lead me toward a more consistent and enriching time in His Word. He has brought me many people and experiences, some for the good and others with great challenge, to teach me profound life lessons. What struck me as I meditated on David’s psalm this morning was how even in the nighttime, God inspires new insight. In seasons of sleeplessness, God has taught me how I am never alone in the dark and how His peace can cast out fear and anxiety. Through seasons where I have enjoyed deep and restorative sleep, He has reminded my heart all good and perfect gifts come from His hand. Right now, as I am coming out of a couple weeks of fighting cold and flu symptoms, He is teaching me the value of slowing down and resting to receive my healing. I have actually gotten some of the best sleep I’ve had in a long while, though my waking hours have been a bit fitful. How like God to bless me in unexpected ways!

P~ God, Thank You for always teaching us and growing us, never leaving us alone, if only we would have spiritual eyes and ears to perceive Your instruction, even after dark. Perhaps especially after dark, when all the other voices have stilled and are quiet.

Special scripture | Joni Tyner

S~ He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.  Psalm 62:6 (NLT)

Oh my people, trust in him at all times. Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.  Psalm 62:8 (NLT)

O~ David is writing this psalm during a difficult season in his life, he was heartbroken over his son’s rebellion.

A~ I’ve been really down today and going through the “why” questions to God.  Yesterday was Valentine’s day and another terrible, terrible school shooting occurred.  My heart is breaking for the pain that people are going through.  There just are no words for this kind of tragedy.  The sadness continued as I got a text that a dear sister in Christ is back in surgery after having multiple, multiple complications from her chemo treatment.  Like a years worth of tough, tough hospitalizing complications.  I just don’t understand why she has had to suffer so much!!!  And, another sweet 13 year old girl lost her life this past week to a brain tumor—she loved Jesus and wanted to be a missionary to Africa, why was her life cut so short???

So, today I’m sad and grieve for those who grieve.  I don’t have any answers, I’m just making the choice to believe in God’s character even though I don’t understand.  And, I’m praying for comfort and healing for those in the midst of terrible times.  I’m praying that God will be their refuge in these tough, tough times.

P~ Dear Lord, cradle these precious people in the palm of Your hands.  Hold them through such crushing sadness. I pray that Your goodness and grace and healing overcome the darkness that surrounds these situations.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
