February 13, 2018 Exodus 27,28; Matthew 13

“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Click HERE to go directly to the daily reading if you wish.

How Sweet the Sound | Kelley Deases

S~  “But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.”  Matthew 13:16 (NIV)

O~ Jesus was preaching before a crowd, teaching them with parables.  His disciples queried why he spoke to the people in parables, rather than telling them directly the knowledge or lesson he was trying to impart.  Jesus basically explained that true seekers are able to discern the truth, while opponents to the faith and casual observers may not grasp the message.

A~  One of the best testimonies I ever heard was from a former coworker.  I worked with her a long time prior to her conversion and she had a reputation around our office for some wild behaviors.  She moved out of state and when she returned to the area and her old job she was, as they say, “a new woman.”  When I asked about how she came to Christ, she told me:  She had been taking a shower one morning listening to country music on the radio.  But by the time she got out of the shower, the dial had moved to a Christian station and a sermon which she felt was talking specifically to her at that moment.  She took that as a prompting to find a church.  So she did, and sometime thereafter she gave her life to Jesus.  And the change in her was evident, especially to those who had known her before. Amazing!

P~  Thank You that You gave me eyes to see and ears to hear You message loud and clear.  And how You were able to uniquely and personally speak to my coworker and gently seduce her into Your kingdom. Your voice and the words You speak are the sweetest of all sounds I know.

Treasure | guest post

S~ The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. Matthew 13:44-46 (NIV)

O~ The Kingdom of Heaven is like a valuable treasure or pearls. When it is found there should be great joy. The person who found it should be willing to give up everything for it.

A~ I am not a big TV person, but I love to watch reality TV shows like Duck Dynasty, Storage Wars and Gold Rush. In Gold Rush those guys pull all their money and seek investors in search of Gold. They expose their families and themselves to some crazy conditions, just trying to find Gold. They are willing to spend long hours and lots of physical labor digging and sifting…even for the tiniest nuggets. I can’t help but cheer for them as they do. In these verses Jesus shares that the Kingdom of Heaven is even more valuable than gold. Anyone who finds it should give up everything else to receive it. Like the guys on Gold rush are willing to put everything on the line to search for gold…to test the limits of their physical bodies….to put in countless hours….to use all their resources….and be willing to ask for the investment of others….to be willing to lead their families into this search…I am challenged to have this same hunger and drive for God’s Kingdom. I must be willing to risk it all for the sake of the one who WILLING gave it all up for me.

P~ Lord, thank you for this challenge. Thank you for reminding me of your sacrifice and love. Help me to see those things that I put before you and your kingdom and let me be willing to sacrifice them in search of you. Help me to place you and your kingdom above all, Lord. Help me to reprioritize areas of my life that need to be reprioritized to focus more on you. Please don’t let me waste my time, words, or resources seeking things that have no impact on your Kingdom. In Jesus’s Name I pray. Amen.
