“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Beautiful Gifts | Tara Wiley
S~ Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from everyone whose heart prompts them to give. Exodus 25:2 (NIV)
O~ I love the imagery in all four passages of our reading plan for today. My imagination goes wild, thinking about all that gold, wood, scarlet, purple, blue, linen… the face of an angel on Stephen… all of it, reflections of God’s glory.
Some people learn things best by seeing visual representations of them. I love to learn with words. I suppose part of it is my artistic rebellion: I want the space to create with those words whatever image my mind can conjure. I love that the Word of God is not written without vivid imagery that allows my mind space to run wild. I love that God chose to represent Himself in such beautiful craftsmanship in His tabernacle. I love that God, who could have delivered every item for His tabernacle already complete when He gave Moses the Ten Commandments, instead gave Moses instructions that allowed the people to engage in the creative process as an act of worship. I love that God prompted hearts to give. I love that some gave through their artistic skill.
A~ God is forever showing us images of His glory. He also prompts our hearts to engage in that glory by giving what we have to make Him known. I want to be constantly pushing the boundaries in my life of how extravagantly I can give to Him – and in how many different ways. I want to reflect His glory in my life like the people of the early church, by using what He has given me to honor Him and make Him known.
P~ God, you know my heart. I want to glorify You. Fill me with skill so I can continue to reflect You in increasingly creative ways. Help me be sensitive to Your prompting and to be quick to offer my time, talent, and energy in the ways You call me to give.
God Nudges | Kelley Deases
S~ “Tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man whose heart prompts him to give.” Exodus 25:2 (NIV)
O~ I love how the Father expresses His heart in this passage. Before outlining very specific details about the building of the tabernacle and its furnishings, God asks that donations would come from those who feel prompted to give. Giving is not mandated, like a tax, but wholly reliant on peoples’ generosity and heart for the Lord. And in order to accomplish His purposes and have the necessary items, I speculate God moved in the individual hearts of people to contribute and complete the work.
A~ I used to think it strange to hear mature believers say such things as “I got an impression,” “I felt a nudge,” or “God gave me peace (or did not give me peace) about that decision.” But no longer. As I have journeyed with the Lord, I have personally experienced Him wake me up, put people in my path, confirm a decision, and give me a sense of calm in answer to prayer when the circumstances did not warrant it. God has prompted me to give to certain people and certain endeavors and not to others. He has prompted my heart in so many things in rather unexplainable ways.
P~ Father, Thank You for how You accomplish Your work on this earth — through the prompting of hearts of those who are listening.
Replace Thoughts | Kim Chipman
S~ When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. Matthew 12:43-44 (NIV)
O/A~ Getting rid of sin is only step 1. I think of this particularly with my thought life. I can’t just have nothing rolling around in my mind. There’s always something in there. If I get the toxic out I need to replace it with godly, Spirit filled thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy. I need to relentlessly pluck out the lies and replace them with truth.
P~ Lord, help me to recognize the lies I believe and take each thought captive to obedience. I love You!
