“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. His Presence | Kelley Deases
S~ … for God is present in the company of the righteous. Psalm 14:5b (NIV)
O~ What better incentive is there for choosing right living over rebellion than to get to experience God’s presence and favor?
A~ In my forty-eight years, I have felt the presence of God on many occasions: in worship services, around campfires, during profound conversations, amidst group prayer, at silent retreats and in my reading chair with an open Bible in my lap. God has blessed me as I have taken the time to position myself to seek Him and hear His voice.
P~ Father, You meet me when I am faithful to seek and ask and knock. I confess I don’t come to You often enough. But when I do, I find You there with a Presence which loves and guides and comforts and is tangibly real.
Am I willing to receive rest? | Deanna George
S~ Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
O~ Jesus is asking me to go to him and give him my concerns and problems.
A~ God, it’s easy for me to go to you, but sometimes I have problems loosening my grip on the emotional attachment I have to my problems. I have an issue letting go when I have a burning desire to try to control the situation. I know I feel so much better when I trust you. I have more peace, less tension, and an ability to have joy during trying times. I need help getting to the place where I can let go earlier. Please nudge me, kick me in the pants, or bring me to my knees so that I remember you are more than capable of doing a better job than I can. Thank you for the reminder in your word, through song, and through your daily presence in my life.
P~ Lord Jesus, thank you for reminding me to loosen my grip on some situations right now. I’m tired of my knuckles hurting from the grip I’m holding onto. My shoulders are riding a little high because I’m choosing to carry the load by myself. I appreciate your willingness to carry my situation so that I may experience peace and joy even when the situation doesn’t encourage those feelings. I am choosing to let go and let you share in the burden that I am feeling. Thank you for always being there for me. Thank you for being tougher than me!!
Humble, Gentle Teacher | Kim Chipman
S~ Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 (NIV)
O~ My study Bible says: ” In what sense was Jesus’ yoke easy? The yoke emphasizes the challenges, work, and difficulties of partnering with Christ in life. Responsibilities weigh us down, even the effort of staying true to God. But Jesus’ yoke remains easy compared to the crushing alternative. Jesus doesn’t offer a life of luxurious ease – the yoke is still a tool that enables the oxen to work. But it’s a shared yoke with weight falling on bigger shoulders than yours. Someone with more pulling power is up front helping. Suddenly you are participating in life’s responsibilities with a great Partner.”
A~ I’ve read this portion of Scripture many times, but today it falls fresh on my heart. Finding rest for my soul sounds wonderful. Remembering You are humble and gentle…I need that in my life. I can learn from You – there’s so much I need to learn…
I need You. My days are filled with things to do, but I need You as my Partner. You give me perspective, priorities, and patience.
P~ I need You. Thank You for always being available, humble, and gentle. I love You!
