“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. Don’t Be Afraid | Kimi Miller

S~ “Don’t be afraid,” Moses answered them, “for God has come in this way to test you, and so that your fear of him will keep you from sinning.” Exodus 20:20 (NLT)

O~ Moses wasn’t “afraid” of God – not even when God displayed His might and power in this way. I do believe Moses had a righteous fear of God – one of reverence and awe, but he wasn’t afraid to be near God because he had relationship with Him.

“…so that your fear of him will keep you from sinning.” God displays His power to show that He is the One True God, not to make them afraid. But so they would know Him, and want to be with Him. His desire is that they would be His people, and He would be their God. Moses understood this – he got it.

A~ I think sometimes I have an “unhealthy” fear of You. I fear that You will be so disappointed with me, that You will leave me. But that’s not the fear You want me to have. That kind of fear causes me to pull away from You and to question Your character and love for me. That kind of fear and those kind of thoughts come from the devil himself – a liar from the beginning.

Just like the Israelites, you desire to be my God, and for me to be your people. You display your power and glory, so that I know You are God! So that I know I am safe, because of your great love for me. So that I have NOTHING to fear, because You go before me. You are FOR me! You are my biggest fan! You don’t want me to sin, because You want me close to You. You want me. 🙂

P~ God, You are the One True God. I stand in awe of You. I believe 2018 is the year You want to show off! So, I will make big asks – trusting, believing, and knowing You are for me! I love you, too, Dad! Amen

What will Jesus say of me? | Deanna George

S~ When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. Matthew 8:10 (NIV)

O~ What will Jesus say I have a lot of? Faith? Joy? Doubt? Perseverance? Closed mind? Open mind? Obedience?

A~ What am I focusing on? What am I allowing to dominate my heart? I know I would love to be known for faith, obedience, and joy, but reality is that doubt and fear can creep in at times. It can be hard for me to stop the train wreck in my brain, but over the past two years I have discovered that making a choice to choose joy has made an impact on my thought process. It has allowed me to rise above a situation to see God’s presence and his help to conquer and persevere through it. This act of choosing joy has had an impact on my quality of life like I never dreamed of. I am going to continue to choose joy, which feeds my faith, and opens my heart to be obedient to God.

P~ Lord Jesus, thank you for reminding me that faith is trusting in you. Trusting that you can do anything, from anywhere, and at anytime. Lord, I so desire to have faith that is unwavering, joy that is contagious, perseverance through any and all trials that come my way, and a willingness to be obedient, even when I don’t want to. Please continue to shape me into the daughter you want me to be. Mold me into the person you want me to be remembered for. I love you! I trust you! I need you!

Keep the Peace | Kelley Deases

S~ The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!” Matthew 8:27 (NIV)

O~ I tend to be the type of person who enjoys a quiet, drama-free existence. Any rocking of the boat can throw off my emotional equilibrium. Sometimes the smallest thing can get me off-kilter and cause me to abandon that peace God wants me to walk in. I definitely would have been the loudest one in the boat that night when the storm was crashing all around, screaming “We’re all going to drown!” (verse 25)

A~ Last night, we were enjoying some family time as we indulged in some high-calorie snack foods. Then I got a text from my college boy in Chicago with a question/issue that had arisen. Rather than address it decisively or defer it to a later time, I let it niggle in my brain, fester in my heart, and ultimately disturb the peace of the evening. My husband is a great model of “Don’t sweat the small stuff,” and “It’ll all work out in the end.” And he doesn’t just say it; he believes it. Which means he does not get ruffled by much.

As I look back on last night’s events in light of today’s verse I can see: (1) Jesus, who is able to calm the wind and the waves, can certainly work out our glitches and/or calm my heart in the meantime; and (2) God gave me this husband for a reason and I can learn so much from his peace and simple trust in the Lord.

P~ Father, Every minute, every hour, You are teaching me and revealing Your truth. If only I can remain attentive and learn those valuable lessons.
