“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. The Tempter | Kim Chipman

S~ The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Matthew 4:3 (NIV)

O~ Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil (v1). I often wonder why the Spirit would do such a thing? It occurs to me right now that it clearly had purpose if the Spirit initiated it. Maybe it is so we would know how to handle temptation?

How to recognize THE TEMPTER. That stood out to me today, too. I don’t remember noticing that Satan is actually called “the tempter” in Scripture.

A~ The tempter went after Jesus when He was hungry, alone, and tired. Also prime time for him to come after me…and come he will! Best way to stay ahead of him? FEED myself so my soul isn’t starving, STAY in community (like real, genuine, transparent, deep talking community), and REST. Also make sure I know Your Word so when the tempter does come I can fight him off. I need all  my armour (Eph 6:10-20). This battle for real is raging strong.

P~ Lord, help me to fight. Keep me strong. Help me remember where those temptations come from – not from You fut from that liar. Thank You for this reminder today. That sneaky, manipulative deceiver is not going to win. Not today, Satan!
