“There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42 (NLT) The heart of this ministry is to inspire a love for God’s Word and encourage the discipline of daily Bible reading and SOAP journaling. These are a few of our SOAP notes from today’s reading. We encourage you to read and journal on your own first, then join us in conversation about what God revealed to YOU today. Leave Comfort | Kim Chipman
S~ And the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it. Exodus 7:5 (NIV)
O~ God is speaking to Moses. He instructed Moses to go speak with Pharaoh about releasing the Israelites from slavery. God also warned Moses that He would harden Pharaoh’s heart and perform “mighty acts of judgement”. Why? So both the Israelites AND the Egyptians would know You are God.
A~ I really don’t like difficult things, honestly. I used to love a challenge. Tell me I couldn’t do something and I was determined to prove you wrong. It’s the only way I got through pharmacy school. I was determined. I’m not sure what happened to that part of me, but it’s faded away a bit over the years. I’m not so excited for the challenge of hard things.
This helps me remember that hard things have purpose. Sometimes, spiritually speaking, it is so that not only I know, but also people around me know, that You are god. If I don’t choose to come out of my comfort zone into a place where you HAVE to show up then I won’t see Your power in the way I could. Other people around me won’t, either. Comfortable is safe, but it isn’t where You call me.
P~ Lord, help to reignite the passionate determination for excellence that I once had. Help me to leave comfortable so I can see Your mighty power. I love You!
Obedience Through Tough Situations | Deanna George
S~ When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. Matthew 1:24 (NIV)
O~ Sometimes God calls us to do the uncomfortable, the unthinkable, and the complete opposite of what we want to do.
A~ Listen! Listen! Listen! Will it be easy? No! Will others wonder what in the heck I am doing? Probably. It comes down to the question, “Do I trust God?” In a tough situation, that can be easy to say, but so hard to step out in faith. This is where I need to completely rely on God. Pray continuously. Post scripture all around me that pertains to faith, trust, obedience, and encouragement, so that I can remember the “why” of doing the hard thing. So I need to Listen, Pray, Trust, Act, and Focus on the why ~ OBEDIENCE.
P~ Lord Jesus, thank you for calling me to obedience. Calling me to obedience means you are with me, guiding me, and directing me. It means I am not alone. It means I am not flying by the seat of my pants. It means I am choosing you! Please help me to remember this when I am in the thick of the situation, trial, or crisis. Please prepare my heart and mind to seek you always, to trust you, and to have faith that you are guiding me to the path you have chosen.
Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
