Here I am. I’m listening. | Kimi Miller
S~ “Take your son, your only son – yes, Isaac, whom you love so much – and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” Genesis 22:2 (NLT)
O~ In the verse before this one, it says that You tested Abraham’s faith. You called out to Abraham and his response was, “Here I am.” In the MSG, his response is translated, “I’m listening.” And then You asked him to give up his son, the one who was promised to him; the one through whom You would fulfill Your promise to him.
I can’t even imagine the thoughts and emotions Abraham must have had in that moment You tested his faith. But in Your omniscience, You must have known that his faith would be found pure.
So You put it to the test – not so You would know, but so Abraham would know.
It was for Abraham, and the generations after him, that his faith was tested.
A~ When You test my faith, it’s not to see if I will fail, it’s to stretch it – to strengthen it. You ask me to put my Isaac on the altar, not to hurt me, but so that I will see Your faithfulness in all of it. It’s certainly not easy, but I know You will provide the ram. So I cast all my cares onto You, because I know You care for me. I trust You, God, for You are my rock and shield. You are my strong tower. You remind me that I am the apple of Your eye, and You keep me safe in the shadow of Your wing.
Even when it doesn’t feel like it, and it feels like You are asking me to do the impossible – You always come through. You always make a way.
So when You call out to me, I choose to say, “Here I am. I’m listening.”
P~ I trust You God. Even when it’s really hard. I trust You more than anything else. I love you, Daddy. Amen.
Sacrificial Love | Kim Chipman
S~ Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” Genesis 22:2 (NIV)
O~ Matthew 19:21-22 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.
Luke 12:34 and Matthew 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
There are times You ask us to sacrifice things we love in order to put You first. You love us and want only good things for us, but more than anything You want our heart. You want to be FIRST.
A~ My word this year is FIRST. I want You to be first in my heart. I want to seek You first with my time and attention. There are things, then, that I need to sacrifice. Right now my battle is very fleshy – what I eat and drink. I’m seeing that as something You are asking me to sacrifice (for my good, of course…). WHY is this so hard? For goodness sake I just don’t think it should be, but for whatever reason it really is.
P~ Lord, give me the heart of Abraham. Willing to sacrifice in order to put You first. I love You!
**update** So, I am digesting all this and I read THIS…You has a way of telling me, and telling me, and telling me…so gently and lovingly…
