Right on, John! | Kelley Deases

S~  He must become greater; I must become less. John 3:30 (NIV)

O~  John the Baptist got the ministry model spot on. Even when he grew to have his own following and group of disciples, John never got prideful about his own accomplishments. He consistently pointed to and deferred to the Christ, so clear was he in his calling. In his humanness, he would later misunderstand what Jesus was sent to do (and not do). He became confused and disillusioned about failing to be set free from Herod’s prison and ultimately losing his life without being rescued, but his mission never wavered and his devotion never waned.

A~ Pride is such a tough monster to hold at bay. Especially as believers who are keepers of the Truth about which others do not know. But if I stay submitted to the One who is infinitely greater than I, following His lead and keeping His agenda at the fore, then I should be able to walk humbly with my God and not get ahead or fall behind in my own efforts.

P~  Jesus, In this new year, as hopefully every year, I desire to point to and defer to You in all things, as John did in his time.

How I am becoming less | guest post

S~ He must become greater; I must become less. John 3:30 (NIV)

O~ John is responding to his followers.  John recognized that Jesus is first and he was sent to make a way for Jesus.

A~ Jesus must become greater, I must become less.  I also want to dream some God-size dreams in 2018.  How do these two things fit together?

As I’ve been thinking about this, I really believe that God is asking me to be quiet about my faith, my friend Jesus, and the biblical perspective of how I see things when talking to my husband.  Did this thought of being quiet come from me or from God?

Matthew 5:16 says, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.  I’ve done this, he gets irritated and down right angry when I talk about anything even closely related to Jesus.

1 Peter 3:1 says, Wives, in the same way be submissive to your husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over WITHOUT WORDS….(emphasis is mine).  And quite honestly, for my husband to be won over to Jesus is a God-size dream.  Me keeping my mouth shut is also a God-size miracle.  🙂   And for these two things to happen: He must become greater; I must become less.

P~ Abba, You are my true home.  Help me to remember the infinite blessings I have as Your child.  I want to carry my cross daily so Jesus becomes greater, I become less.  Help me to remember that my struggle is not against my husband, who is flesh and blood, but against forces of evil.  Help me to put on Your armor every day so I can stand firm and keep genuinely quiet (this includes text messages).  Thank You for giving me this God-size dream and making it impossible for me alone to accomplish!  I pray this in Jesus’ Name!

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
