Be thankful! | Deanna George

S~ One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back praising God in a loud voice. He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him – and he was a Samaritan. Luke 17:15-16 (NIV)

O~ When God meets my needs, heals me, stops me from doing something that would have had bad consequences, or encourage me in an unexpected way, I NEED to be thankful. I NEED to be excited. I don’t need to take it for granted.

A~ A grateful heart is good medicine. When I acknowledge God’s hand in my life, it tells him that I am paying attention. I’m paying attention to my source of help, encouragement, and leadership. It keeps my heart open to his will. When I am open to his will, then I am open to growing, to being used by him, and to loving him even more. Do not be shy with my thanksgiving. Give God the glory when he saves me from dumb decisions, heals me, or gives me a parking spot when it’s down pouring! He reveals himself in both and small ways. Say thanks for it all.

P~ Lord Jesus, thank you for showing me it’s okay to get excited when you do something for me. I really appreciate all that you have done for me. Thank you Lord!! Thank you for my health ~ it’s been so much better this year! Thank you for my life with Mike these past 25 years! You knew exactly who I needed as my helpmate, and it was your divine intervention to bring us together. Thank you for the encouragement to step out of my comfort zone! We both know that has been a tremendous effort on your part. I am excited to see what you have in store for 2018. My eyes are open to see how you are active in my life. My ears are open so I may be obedient to you. My heart is open so that I may grow into the woman you desire for me to be. Please continue to work on me. I am yours.

Our Counter-Cultural Jesus | Kelley Deases

S~ Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it.”  Luke 17:33 (NIV)

O~ Jesus was always saying things like this.  Teachings that confounded the rulers and the learned.  But He did not come to blend in to the culture , but to establish a new kind of Kingdom.  And if we want to follow him, we shouldn’t just blend in either, but demonstrate by our lives that we serve a counter-cultural Lord.

A~ Give your life away to keep it?  How strange … and yet how many times has this turned out to be the case in my own life.  When I freely give of our family resources, I gain a freedom from the attachment to money and stuff that the world so cherishes.  When I spend time serving and ministering to others, my life is enriched as I take my eyes off of my own selfish pursuits and petty problems.  When I open my home, I am blessed by those who enter and share their lives and stories with me.  When I give Him my time in reading, study and prayer, I receive back so much more than I gave.

P~ Father, Help me look and act and speak more like Your Son and less like the culture around me.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
