Life is Not In Possessions | Kim Chipman

S~ Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15 (NIV)

O~ This is Jesus speaking.

A~ This time of year especially it is hard to remember this. There is a barrage of advertising designed to create discontentedness. The messages endlessly point out the inadequacy of our current possessions. Whatever it is it is not good enough, new enough, fancy enough, shiny enough…it’s not enough. We need more. Bigger. Better. Newer.

Then we will be happy.

At church we have been going through a series on finances and were challenged to memorize 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

I want to take hold of the life that is truly life. And according to Jesus it is not in the abundance of possessions.

P~ Lord, help my heart to be content. Help me to use what I have to provide for our family and be generous to others. Guard my heart against greed and continual consumption. Help me to be sacrificial. For Your glory. I love You!
