Help Me Trust You | Kim Chipman

S~ The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. Nahum 1:3a (NIV)

O~ My study Bible says, ” God is slow to get angry, but when He is ready to punish, even the earth trembles. Often people avoid God because they see evil doers in the world and hypocrites in the church. They don’t realize that because God is slow to anger, He gives true followers time to share His love and truth with evildoers. but judgement will come; God does not allow sin to go unchecked forever.”

A~ I have a situation in my life right now that involves adults behaving very badly. Evil, really. It is heart. breaking.

This verse helps me to focus on 2 things:

  1. You are slow to anger and You desire repentance. What is my role in showing love to the people who did terrible things? They need You and Your love just as much as I do. Help me to see in THIS situation specifically exactly what You are calling me to do.
  2. You are just. You will not leave the guilty unpunished. I’m choosing to believe this to be true. It’s hard not to feel angry and want revenge.

P~ Lord, help me to pray for these people. I really just want to be angry. Help me to trust that You are just. I love You!

First and Foremost, I am His | Kelley Deases

S~ However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. Luke 10:20 (NIV)

O~ Jesus sent seventy-two of His faithful followers out to witness to the Gospel and perform miracles in the surrounding cities. They “returned with joy,” ecstatic for having been given authority over demons. Jesus instructs them their joy is misplaced;it is not about what they had been given power to do, but about Whose they are.

A~ This speaks to my heart today. It is good to count my blessings and acknowledge the Giver of all good gifts. It is good to remember all the mess from which He delivered me. It is good to share my story. It is good to be able to open my home to women and encourage them to read Your Word. These are all amazing things which have flowed from His hand. But what is the greatest source of joy, when it’s all stripped away? I am His and He is mine. I have been grafted into the family of God and a place has been reserved for me in heaven. If I only ever reflected on this miracle, I should be smiling the rest of my days.

P~ Lord, I can so easily rob myself of “the joy of the Lord” when things don’t go my way. But the day you plucked me from death into life, I was given the ultimate, surpassing joy. I simply need to fix my thoughts upon this truth, and away from the minutia and the distractions.

Distractions | Deanna George

S~ But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me! Luke 10:40 (NIV)

O~ Martha was so busy with her to do list that she wasn’t paying her guest any attention.

A~ I can and do get so distracted with my long list of tasks that need to get done. Some of those things weigh so heavy on me that it’s hard to focus on God, to accomplish things I can get done, and the ability to experience peace. I make the to-do list more important than my relationship with God. It can happen so quickly that I don’t even realize it is happening. Once again, to comes down to choice for me. Am I choosing to make God a priority, even when life gets crazy busy? Or am I choosing the health of my soul,  or am I choosing tasks that will make my life easier? Today, I chose God. Today, he told me why it’s so important. My heart and soul is the foundation of who I am. Now that I have firmed up my foundation, my heart and mind seems ready and willing to conquer my day. That feeling alone motivates me to get busy.

P~ Lord Jesus, thank you for meeting me where I am at. You always know what I need to see and hear. It’s really kind of scary how well you know me, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you. I look forward to seeing what we accomplish today. Please be the guiding force of my to-do list. The joy you have already provided this morning is exhilarating, motivating, and down right enjoyable!
