The Forever Guide | Joni Tyner

S~ For that is what God is like.

He is our God forever and ever.

And he will guide us until we die.  Psalm 48:14 (NLT)

O~ God’s faithfulness transcends time. He is the one constant in our lives.

A~ The notes in my Bible say we need a map that gives us directions and a constant companion who has an intimate knowledge of the way, who makes sure we interpret the map correctly.  The Bible is the map and the Holy Spirit is the companion.  It makes me think about using SOAP journaling, we have the scripture, but we need the Holy Spirit to help us understand it and then prompt us into action.  I believe the Bible is meant to be lived out! It isn’t a decoration on my coffee table that just looks nice—it is my life roadmap.

P~ Sweet Jesus, thank you for being with me for the long haul.  That is so comforting to me.  My life has been filled with many good intentions that often never end up with follow through.  Yet, You remain with me and continue to guide and nudge me.  I pray for an increased sensitivity to hearing and seeing Your leading.   I love You.

Baptism | Kelley Deases

S~  I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit. Mark 1:8 (NIV)

O~ Baptism. I love the continuity of the ritual which has survived 2,000+ years of church history. A symbol, as performed by John the Baptist, of the washing away of sin and the freshness of repentance. The changing of a heart to enter God’s kingdom. Now we can be symbolically buried with Christ and resurrected to a new life in Him.

A~ One of my friends was baptized at church this past Sunday. She was just sharing in our Bible study the other day how she was raised in Venezuela in a family who attended a Catholic church, which was just about the only option available. When she came to the U.S. she found endless choices of churches and denominations. When her military husband’s job brought her family here to Omaha, she found Calvary Church and it felt to her like she had found a home, one where she first met God. Now she has publicly taken the step to proclaim her faith in Christ and join the body of believers with her baptism. As much as we are celebrating with her, we are now praying for her husband to experience the same hope and joy in knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

P~ Father, Thank You for directing the steps and the heart of my friend, drawing her into Your family. Continue to work in her little family until her husband finds You and comes to know You for himself.

What if i was obedient? | Deanna George

S~ At once they left their nets and followed him. Mark 1:18 (NIV)

O~ Simon and Andrew stopped everything and obeyed Jesus. This isn’t the first time Jesus asked. It took time and trust to build their faith in their heart. Jesus was patient with the disciples. Jesus is patient with me!!

A~ Sometimes it’s hard for me to say yes to Jesus immediately. Why is that? Doubt that it is God’s voice. Or is it what I want to do? If it’s something out of my comfort zone, then I really try to fight it. I am queen of why I shouldn’t do it. I need to kick the why nots out of my head. I need to start thinking, “What if I was obedient?”

P~ Lord Jesus, what am I fighting or ignoring that you want me to do? What area of my life have I been slow to respond? What am I scared of? Right now I feel this sense of urgency, but I am not sure what it is for. Please open my ears, my eyes, and my heart so I may be obedient to you. I know you. I trust you. Thank you for being patient with me. Please strengthen my legs to walk the path you want me to walk. Please help clear my head so that I may hear your voice. Please continue to guide me, even when I make it difficult. Thank you for loving me!
