S~ You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak.’ Job 42:4 (NIV)

O~ One of my favorite verses in the whole of the Old Testament is Job 42:5, where Job realizes and declares, “My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you.” It is such a profound shift in perspective from knowing about God to seeing Him reveal Himself for who He really is. This is a significant moment in the life of every believer, myself included.

But this morning when I turned to the final chapters of this famous book, what caught my eye wee the multiple references to when the Lord spoke. After 34 chapters of Job and his three friends exchanging their ideas, it is then God’s turn to have the final say.

A~ This is the reason we read directly from Scripture during our Friday morning Bible study group. When fifteen or so women gather together, we certainly have ideas to discuss, suggestions to proffer and issues to debate. But it is our desire to hear what God would have to say. So we start by sitting quietly and reading a chapter or two from our daily reading plan and then sharing what He says about our ideas, suggestions and issues. Or maybe He changes the whole atmosphere and topic completely, turning our hearts to His agenda over ours. Even better!

P~ Father, Thank You for Your Word and how we can still hear You speak to our hearts — individually and collectively. We would do well to listen more to you and less to our own words.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
