Reframing the Question | Kelley DeAses
S~ Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Job 38:4 (NIV)
O~ For the first time since the very beginning of the book and the beginning of Job’s whole agonizing ordeal, God speaks. The most striking thing to me is that He does not enter the fray of theological back-and-forth going on between Job and his friends, but reframes the entire argument. God could have chosen to address each point raised by each man and specifically affirm or refute. Rather, He overtakes the discussion and establishes a new paradigm, that being that He, God, created all, knows all, and is over all. Who are these mere men to question God?
A~ When pain or conflict strikes, I am prone to ask the wrong questions: Why me? Again? Haven’t I endured enough? But maybe I need to take the higher view and see God’s perspective (to the degree my limited mind can grasp it) in the matter: How can He use this? How is He refining me? For He can see the entire scope of my life and all eternity, while I can only glimpse this moment.
P~ Father, I am so grateful that You have all the answers, even when I don’t know the right question.
Spiritual Milk | Joni Tyner
S~ Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment. 1 Peter 2:2 (NLT)
O~ It is a natural instinct for a baby to crave milk. They want it, it is required for their survival. Babies who are hungry WANT THEIR MILK!! They will not be distracted by other substitutes. Peter is comparing Christians to how a baby craves milk. We should crave spiritual nourishment. It makes us grow.
A~ I’ve recently been around a newborn baby for the past couple of months. Boy, did I completely forget how much they cry for their milk!! Baby Leanne wants her milk and not that pacifier!! She needs it consistently, she needs it to grow, to survive. Her cry for milk is so intense, I honestly had forgotten about that type of cry from a baby. She needs her milk on a regular, consistent basis to grow.
1 Peter 2:2 is instructing us to crave God’s Word with that type of intensity. To not be distracted by substitutes. We will become spiritually satisfied and grow with consistent time in His Word.
P~ Dear Lord, I need to keep going back to Your Word. Please fill me with the intensity of a newborn craving her milk, I want to hunger for You that way. I don’t want to be a malnourished spiritual infant, I want to experience all that you have planned for me.
