Alert, Sober, Focused | Deanna George
S~ Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 1 Peter 1:13 (NIV)
O~ Alert – Sober – Focused
A~ ALERT- Looking for Jesus in my life. Listen to what he has planned for me and do it.
SOBER – Be disciplined in reading my Bible, pray with intention, praise him, and seek him with a clear mind.
FOCUSED – Stay on the path of seeking God, searching for the answers in the Bible, trusting God with all things, and placing my hope in God’s grace, love, and forgiveness.
P~ Lord Jesus, I love this. I need to be alert to you and the Holy Spirit. I can do this if I keep you in the forefront of my mind and choose you daily to be my guiding force. I love the reminder to remember how incredible and knowledgeable you are. My hope comes from you in all situations. Help me to stay alert and focused and disciplined in my walk with you.
My short life | Nikki Metzger
S~ All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord stands forever. 1 Peter 1: 24, 25 (NIV)
O~ Peter is quoting Isaiah 40:6-8 here. The gist is, my life is so short; so short that it’s comparable to the lifespan of grass. My deeds, actions, work, parenting, conversations are the flowers. Pretty one day, but will fall and die the next day. The only that is going to last is the Word of the Lord.
A~ These last two weeks of starting a new job have been so difficult in my heart! I have multiple people that I answer to and because I’m new, I desperately want to do a good job. But I actually don’t know what I’m doing yet, so it’s tough to please someone when I’m still figuring out the expectations.
How does that fit with this truth that Peter wrote from the old, old book of Isaiah? My work and my life are a single plant. They won’t last long; like a blink or a heartbeat in the grand scheme of life. The only part of me that will last forever is the stuff that runs through truth. The truth, the Word of God.
My job will fade; people will forget me when I die. The stuff that remains is truth. Are the people I interact with every day seeing someone who trusts THE Eternal God? Even though I’m learning this new job, am I trusting my Savior who basically created this job? As I step into the role of managing people, am I loving them? Why does loving them even matter? Because love never fails and will remain forever!! Am I patient, am I kind, and not recording their wrongs, am I always hoping?
P~ Father, thank You for setting my heart to truth! I’m like a blade of grass! Let my life honor You and bring You glory!
