A Cloud of Witnesses | Kelley Deases
S~ Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. Hebrews 12:1-2a (NIV)
O~ Having just highlighted some of the heroes of the Christian faith in the prior chapter, Hebrews 11, we are encouraged to go and chart our own course.
A~ While I am indeed blessed to own a Bible (multiple Bibles, actually) and can readily scour its pages for encouragement and direction and correction and wisdom from the mentors within its page, I am doubly blessed to have so many mentors and fellow sojourners of the faith all around me — in my family, in my workplace, in my church, in my workplace, in my son’s school and even in my neighborhood. With this entire cloud of witnesses and cheerleaders, I am without excuse but to run my race well.
P~ Father, I am humbled and grateful You chose me, that You sparked in me a love for Your Word and that You have given me a great cloud of real-live, present-day, flesh-and-blood witnesses to spur me on.
DO NOT GIVE UP! | Kim Chipman
S~ Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:3 (NIV)
O~ Galatians 6:9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
A~ There are times in my life, especially in mothering, that I’m ready to give up. There’s opposition from my kids when it comes to doing what needs to be done like chores or homework or serving (without an attitude) or turning off electronics to get some sleep. It’s so much more natural to be selfish. (For me, too – preaching to myself…) Just because I run into opposition, though, does not mean I should give up.
There are parts of me that have given up, I realize as I’m thinking about it. As I really think back there are things that I did grow weary fighting for in my home. I’ve let the opposition grind me down and I’ve lost heart. This is hard to see in myself. Ugh.
Consider Him who endured such opposition…I’m in good company as far as opposition goes. Don’t grow weary and lose heart, Kim. (or where you already have, let’s get it together! find your passion again!) At the proper time there will be a fruitful harvest IF YOU DO NOT GIVE UP.
P~ Lord, help! I see in myself areas where I have haven up. Help me to keep focused on Jesus who endured so much more opposition and remained focused on His mission. Help me stay focused. I love You!
