Entering the Ultimate Sabbath of Soul | Rest Tara Wiley

S~ Now we who have believed enter that rest. Hebrews 4:3 (NIV)

O~ Today’s reading in Hebrews is all about the ultimate Sabbath rest – the rest we receive when we believe in God’s redeeming work through Jesus Christ. This spiritual rest comes through faith, and is available to us 24 hours a day! I love that through Christ, we can experience deep soul-rest all the time.

A~ What a gift! Eternal rest, and I can begin to experience it now when I choose by belief to stand in the redeeming work of Jesus on my behalf. When I am driven to negative self-talk, it brings the ultimate unrest of spirit. When I focus instead on the truth of God that sets me free, I experience rest that sustains me even when life is chaotic.

P~ Lord, thank You for the gift of eternal soul-rest. Thank You, too, for the physical reminder of literal Sabbath rest, set in place from the very beginning of creation, shown through Your law (I love that it was so important that Nehemiah set it out as one of the very first re-commitments in our reading in Nehemiah 10 today!). Give me the guidance and power of Your Spirit to moment-by-moment choose to remain in that rest (not that You take it from me – but I allow my own distractions, internal and external, to convince me otherwise), and the discipline to follow Your lead in literal Sabbath rest as well.

You See | Kim Chipman

S~ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. Hebrews 4:13 (NIV)

O~ Sometimes life seems random and unfair. It often appears that people who are dishonest get ahead and people who diligently serve and follow You struggle. This world is not the end and we all will give account.

A~ It is comforting in ways to remember that nothing in all creation is hidden from You. You see when it’s unfair. You see the silent, private, sacrificial service that goes uncelebrated. You see the times I choose to honor You when it is excruciating. You see.

It is also convicting that You see all and I will give account. There are times I don’t obey or just partially obey. You see. You see when my actions are honoring but my heart is not. Everything is uncovered. When it really comes down to it everything I do and think, my attitudes and motivators, they ALL matter.

P~ Lord, help me to enjoy the freedom of Your omniscience, but also get serious about honoring You in each small thing. I will give account for it all. I love You!
