Goal: Build others up! | Joni Tyner

S~ In the same way, their wives must be respected and must not slander others. They must exercise self-control and be faithful in everything they do. 1 Timothy 3: 11 (NLT)

O~ Paul is writing to instruct the church about appropriate behavior for leaders of the church.

A~ Nonbelievers are watching my behavior, how I talk. This verse, once again, reminds me to live a upstanding life.  I should ALWAYS strive to speak well of others, even those who differ from me.  My standard  should be to always respect others and refrain from negative comments.

This is how a determine what is appropriate to say. Would my conversation please the person being discussed or would they feel betrayed and hurt? I really want to strive for excellence in this area of my Christian walk.

P~ Dear Lord, I want to be a good witness to others.  Please help me do a better job!!! I really want to have more self-control. Holy Spirit, fill in for my weaknesses—I want to replace unwholesome speech with words that build others up.  I want to be known as an encourager to everyone, not just my favorite people. Lord, please give me eyes to see the best in everyone, help me to speak love, encouragement and truth into others.

Worthy of Respect | Kim Chipman

S~ In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. 1 Timothy 3:11 (NIV)

O~ Paul is giving instructions for the character qualities of anyone who aspires to be an “overseer” in the church. A leader. Shouldn’t we all aspire to be a leader? We can’t all teach/preach or play music or be in charge of some committee, but we are ALL called to be disciples and lead others closer to Jesus.

A/P~ Lord, help me to be like this woman – worthy of respect, temperate and trustworthy in everything. Help me to not be a malicious talker but to choose thoughts and words that believe the best in others and build up All that You may be glorified. I love You!
