Hills and Valleys | Kim Chipman

S~ The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because the Arameans think the Lord is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the Lord.’” 1 Kings 20:28 (NIV)

O~ God sent Ahab, the king of Israel, to defeat the Arameans. First battle the Israelites won soundly. The officials of the king of Aram told him “Their gods are gods of the hills. That is why they were too strong for us. But if we fight them on the plains surely we will be stronger than they.”

A~ There are times I believe this myself (quite unfortunately). You are God and capable of saving me over here but not over there. In this situation but not in that one. When it makes sense to me and I can see how things will work out, but not when I can’t. Like somehow You have human limitations…but duh, You don’t! It’s easy for my heart to believe that You are a God of the hills but not of the valleys also.

Your response? Because, Kim, You think I am a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will reveal myself to You in amazing ways you can’t even imagine, and you will know that I am the Lord.

I love that part of Your character is to reveal Yourself to me. I doubt sometimes. I forget. I give up when it takes too long. I try to fix things that aren’t mine to fix. Instead of abiding in You and trusting I get scared and forget.

P~ Thank You for being a God of the hills AND valleys who continually reassures my heart. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me over and over again. I love it that You use circumstances so that “you will know that I am the Lord”. Thank You. I love You!
