Joy and gladness | Nikki Metzger

S~ Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones You have crushed rejoice. Psalm 51:8 (NIV)

O~ This is David’s plea to God after he had committed adultery with Bathsheba.  In the midst of asking for forgiveness, David asks the Lord to hear rejoicing and gladness.

A~ When I ask my Father for forgiveness, I typically don’t include gladness and rejoicing in my prayers.  It’s a somber, serious conversation I have with my Lord.

Even in David’s deep repentance about his sin, he knew there was joy in the process.  So if I look at myself the same, while addressing my sin, there is joy and gladness to be heard.

P~ Father, even in the midst of my sin, I can ask to hear joy and gladness.  Lord, I’m asking to hear joy and gladness now and the bones You have crushed rejoice.  Thank You!  I pray this in Jesus’ Name!

Worth the sacrifice | Kelley Deases

S~ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:17 (NIV)

O~ With the ultimate sacrifice have been made, Jesus’ death on the cross, it is no longer required of God’s people to sacrifice animals at the altar for the atonement of sin. But what He does require is our very selves, that we bow the knee in honor and deference. That we give Him credit for any successes or blessings we enjoy. That we turn to His comfort and guidance in our times of pain and confusion. That we acknowledge Him in everything.

A~ I have not done a great job of this in the past couple weeks, to be honest. I saw my son take his wedding vows, saw my parents celebrate 50 years of marriage, saw my mother-in-law survive a serious health scare, have been offered the opportunity to purchase a beautiful home at a very reasonable price, got approved for the financing, and on and on. Yet I have not bowed the knee in gratitude and humility as I should. More often than not, I awake not with a broken and contrite spirit, but thinking of my to-do list associated with an impending move and get right to work.

P~ Father, Thank You that this morning You drew me to sit at Your feet. To open Your Word and receive a proper perspective and regain a right heart before You. A heart that is truly thankful for all You have done and are doing in my life, especially in this season of great blessing.

Psalm 107:23-25 | Joni Tyner

For 2 weeks, I decided to work on memorizing Psalm 107 and yikes– There are 43 verses. Wow!!! I’ve never, ever tried to memorize this much scripture!!—so in an effort to be successful I decided to breakdown each days verse with a short SOAP note to help me really soak in what I am memorizing.   If anyone feels led to memorize this with me or give me some tips, I’d love to hear from you.   Here is today’s verse and journal note.   Joni

S~ Some went down to the sea in ships, doing business on the great waters: they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous work in the deep. For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea. Psalm 107:23-25 (ESV)

O/A~ As I look at this scripture, I see myself being busy doing my daily stuff—and in that day to day life stuff—if I open my eyes, I will see God’s work everywhere. He performs miracles in little ways and sometimes big, crazy ways. God’s ways are not our ways. I need to really learn this!!!

P~ Dear Lord, help me see you in my daily life. I don’t want to get to heaven someday and think, “how did I miss that and that and that?” Please keep pursuing my heart so that I stay sensitive to the things of God.

Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
