Focus on My Foundation | Kim Chipman
S~ When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do? Psalm 11:3 (NIV)
O~ Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Matthew 7:24-27 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Romans 8:5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
A~ If my foundation is destroyed I’m in trouble. When I neglect time alone with You reorienting my heart and thoughts on You it damages my foundation. Not only do I need to be in Your Word, but also need to actually put it into practice to be solid.
Why is it so easy to drift!? ARGH!
P~ Lord, help me to remember how vitally important this is. I’m in trouble without a strong foundation. Help me to not neglect radical soul care. I love You!
Knocked Down | Joni Tyner
S~ We are pressed on every side by trouble, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4: 8-9 (NLT)
Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies. 2 Corinthians 4:10 (NLT) (emphasis is mine)
O~ Paul is giving encouragement to the people of Corinth. This scripture is acknowledging that the Christian faith is HARD, our circumstances can CONFUSE and PERPLEX us, we can feel like the world is ganging up on us. We can expect to get KNOCKED down by the troubles of this world.
Why does God allow this?
Because, through suffering, people will see the reflection of Jesus in our lives. (verse 10)
A~ I don’t think I know a single Christian that hasn’t experienced some degree of perplexing hardship in their life. The circumstances are different, but the common denominator is that it doesn’t seem fair and, at times, it really feels like there is a target on our back that says, “kick me” …and life does.
As I absorb this verse this morning, I am holding on to verse 10. I’ve been guilty of sometimes cherry picking a verse. But, that is a SAD, very incomplete injustice because the victory is found in verse 10. By understanding verse 10, I can know that there is purpose in suffering. I don’t know the specifics and honestly, I don’t like most circumstances, but I do trust the One who will one day –
“wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:4
P~ Sweet Jesus, I have a feeling there are so many readers that are saying “YES”! to feeling knocked down and perplexed by life. I ask that You relentlessly pursue our hearts to not become cynical and bitter. Infuse us with peace during the crazy hard days. Lord, through Your Holy Spirit, help us to reflect to the world the qualities that give You glory. Help us to be patient as we wait on You. I ask an extra prayer for my friend Heather. Dear Lord, she has been knocked around and beat up by cancer. She.is.weary. I plead that through this suffering, she continues to be strengthened and somehow this tough situation gives You glory. Sweet Jesus, I pray for healing for her body!!!! I pray that every promise from scripture becomes true in her life. Thank you for Your grace that covers all of our doubt.
Our team would love the privilege of praying for you! Please share how we can lift you in prayer at prayer@DiscoverOneThing.com
