Not In My Strength | Kim Chipman
S~ The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’ Judges 7:2 (NIV)
O~ Gideon was going to need to lead the Israelite army to fight against the Midianites. You instructed Gideon to take fewer men – they started with 32,000. You whittled it down to 300. The reason? So Israel would know it was You that defeated the Midianites.
A~ I kind of feel like I’m going through a pruning/reorganizing/humbling stage in my heart. As I sit here right now I feel like You are showing me clearly that this is exactly why. I tend to fall back into a self sufficient mindset – which is totally prideful.
I see that Your character is HOLY. You are God. I am to have no other gods, even (especially?) the god of self. You want me to see You at work in my life. This may require pruning some things away, but You are holy and You know what is best for me and what I need. I don’t always get it, but it doesn’t make much sense to send Gideon into battle with 300 men instead of 32,000 men either! I need You, and I need to remember I need You.
P~ Thank You for helping me to see this today. I don’t always understand Your methods, but I know I can trust You even if I don’t. I love You!
Quenching my thirst! | Deanna George
S~ My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Psalm 42:2 (NIV)
O~ Am I thirsty for God’s presence in my daily life? When things are good? When things are bad?
A~ When I get thirsty, really thirsty, I have a hard time concentrating on anything but water: when can I get it, where can I get it from. When the sticky, cotton mouth is quenched with water the mind and body reacts with a little happy dance because all is right with my body again. When we lived in the desert in Yuma, Arizona, I learned the hard way of not satisfying the thirst. My walk with God parallels this. When I don’t quench my thirst for God’s love, peace, joy, and guidance, my mind, soul, and spirit get out of whack. SOAPing has made the thirst stronger for God and boy is it so hard to have the peace in the storm when I don’t quench that thirst daily. I love the answer to the question, when can I go and meet with God? The answer is anytime, anywhere! Water is not always immediately available, but God sure is! That excites me so much that I want to scream for joy. I love that my thirst for God can be met by just calling out to him and trusting him with my life. It’s not always easy to give up control, but it worth it!
P~ Lord Jesus thank you for meeting me when I come to you. I know I may not get all my wishes and answers, but I know that you are going to walk (and sometimes carry me) with me through the trials of life. Not only that, but you will provide me with peace – I just need to claim it! Please continue to build my thirst for you. I want your living water to be my source of joy and happiness no matter my circumstances.
