Why………… and why me? | Kelley Deases

S~ “But sir,” Gideon replied, “if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us?” Judges 6:13a (NIV)

O~ This is an age-old question for unbelievers and believers alike: “If there is a God, why is this world such a mess?” “If God is good, why is there so much pain and suffering?” Or even: “If God loves me and has promised never to leave me nor forsake me, why do I have this (rebellious child, unfaithful spouse, financial stress, cancer or other health condition)?

A~ Gideon, who describes himself as the least in his family and from the weakest of clans wonders also why the Lord is speaking to him, of all people, in the midst of the nation’s seemingly hopeless plight. Which actually begins to answer the first question. The world and our circumstances are oftentimes a mess because this is a fallen world and we are reaping what we have sown, experiencing the consequences of our sin and poor choices. But whether the heartache is or is not our own doing, God wants to reveal to us how He really IS there — not to remove all the trials necessarily but to meet us right in the middle of them. He desires to teach us who He is and how His love and the life He offers is so much greater than the other things to which we are inclined to cling.

P~ Lord, Help me to always see past the circumstance and find You there… and what You are trying to show me through it.

S~ For what you have done I will always praise you in the presence of your faithful people. And I will hope in your name, for your name is good. Psalm 52:9 (NIV)

O~ Acknowledge what God has done for me. Give him praise and let others know I have help. God is faithful so keep my hope in him because he is good!

A~ Remember to hope!

Remember to be thankful!

Remember to share what God has done for me! (Don’t give impression that I did it all by myself or that I have all my trash tidy and neat.)

P~ Lord Jesus, I want to give glory to you because you are my source of strength, knowledge, and confidence to go about my daily life. I praise you for helping me in my roles of wife and mother. I praise you for correcting me when I take things in my own will, even though I don’t enjoy it at the time.  I praise you for allowing me to try new things. Help me to continue to see your hand in my life. I love how you help me in the little tasks as much as the big tasks. Keep my eyes and heart open to see your presence in my mundane, daily life.
