Teaching My Children | Kim Chipman

S~ Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:7 (NIV)

O~ God gave Moses commandments to share with the Israelite people. These commandments are to be on our hearts. Not just in our brain – on our heart. And they should be part of our life! Not just reserved for church activities on Sunday morning or Wednesday night or during a Bible study.

A~ There are times I would like the sit down family devotion time. Spending time with You in Your Word is so important to me, and I long to share that with my family. When the children were small we would read the Proverbs chapter of the day each morning before school. As they got older that faded away. There isn’t really a time we dive into Your Word together as a family. Which bums me out.

This verse is freeing and encouraging and filled with hope for my heart. You don’t say to sit down and formally instruct my children Your Word each day. As with so many things You make it more relational and more life integrated than that. It’s not supposed to have a separate box…IT IS the box!

Life will provide ample opportunity to impress Your commands into my children. I really believe the saying “more is caught than taught” anyway. How I live – how I treat people, what I value and prioritize, my attitude, my words – all speak volumes about if I truly love You with all my heart and all my soul and all my strength.

P~ Lord, help me to love You and represent You well to my children. I want them to know You and love You more than anything. Help me to boldly speak Your truth into our daily-ness. Help me to see opportunities to impress Your truth upon my children. I love You!

My Nations To Defeat | Michelle Myers

S~ When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations—the Hittites, Girgashites, Amosrites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations larger and stronger than you–and when the LORD your God has delivered them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy them totally.  Make no treaty with them, and show them no mercy.”  Deuteronomy 7:1-2 (NIV)

O~ In my life and circumstances, I am not going to have to drive out actual nations.  However, with this latest challenge in my life, I am beginning to realize that there are other aspects that I am going to have to possess with a forceful grip on You and Your truths.  If I am going to defeat them totally, I am going to have to destroy them totally.  I can’t show them mercy by entertaining them in my mind, trying to figure out the truth (which You have already clearly shown me).  I can’t make a treaty with them, by letting them wallow around in my feelings, until my feelings dictate my actions.  This results in one big, ugly mess. On my own, these things are larger and stronger than me. That is why I need You.

A~ I need You to help me remember that You see me.  You know my heart.  My spiritual nations that I have to stand firm in defeating are….

my emotions

people’s judgments and criticism

people’s unwarranted disappointments in me

the ways of the world

the thoughts that go through my head

comparison

my own ego

P~ Thank you God for the SPIRITUAL PEACE that YOU are providing for me this morning.  I need Your strength and endurance to totally destroy my spiritual nations.  Please help me stay focused on and connected to You.
