Many Stages in My Journey | Kim Chipman
S~ Here are the stages in the journey of the Israelites when they came out of Egypt by divisions under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. At the Lord’s command Moses recorded the stages in their journey. This is their journey by stages: Numbers 33:1-2 (NIV)
O~ You commanded the Israelites’ journey to be recorded. From Egypt to the river Jordan where they crossed into the Promised Land I count 42 stages in their journey. I’ve heard it is estimated that the journey from Egypt to the Promised Land is approximately an 11 day journey. It took the Israelites 40 years and they moved 42 times!
A~ This is so encouraging to me today. Quite often I don’t understand Your method. I see a task to accomplish and You see a heart to be molded. Your method is different because (sometimes) Your goal is different. You also see way more than I do. Your ways are not my ways. Your thoughts are not my thoughts.
My 11 day journey just might take 40 years – or more! I need to trust You on this rather indirect journey. You know where we’re going! You’ve got this!
P~ I love Your Word. I appreciate the journey of people who went before me that you commanded to be recorded so I could learn to trust You. Please help me to trust You more deeply each day. You are worthy! I love You!
The Long Journey | Joni Tyner
S~ The is the route the Israelites followed as they marched out of Egypt under the leadership of Moses and Aaron. Number 33:1 (NLT)
O~ Numbers 33 gives a DETAILED account of the Israelites’ 40 years in the dessert after they left Egypt. There are 50 verses that “move” them through the journey. It appears to me they had to pack up every 6 months or so. There were over 500,000 people plus all of their livestock. It was a big deal.
A~ As I looked over all of the places the Israelites camped, I couldn’t help but think, “what an amazing journey.” It was filled with difficulties and miracles. I still think of the awe to be an eye witness to the parting of the Red Sea!! How completely amazing was that? They saw manna drop from Heaven. They had struggles with their faith. They saw many births, marriages, and death. Finally, after 40 years, they reached the promised land. Forty years. Forty years. WOW. God’s plan for them was to grow in their faith. He’s God, He could have gotten them to the Promised land in less than a week, yet He knew that the shortest, fastest way would not be the best way. That just strikes me as such a plan. God wanted them to LEARN and LEAN ON HIM so He allowed time and struggle to enter the journey to produce a legacy of faith for the generations to come. It was worth the effort.
P~ Lord, You know me. I’m super impatient!!!! I love you and want to see Your glory—like now!!! It’s so hard to be in the middle of the process of life’s long journey and all the struggles that accompany it. Thank you for the detailed accounts of Your faithfulness to the Israelites who wandered in the desert. It encourages me to press on. Even though I don’t like waiting, I trust Your plan, Your time table for my life.
Chasing What Matters | Luisa Penaherrera
S~ But my life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus… Acts 20:24 (NLT)
O~ What is it that occupies most of my energy? If it isn’t the work God has for me it will mean nothing in the end.
A~ I will listen for you and follow. I will bring my doubts, my dreams, and my hopes to you and trust and obey.
P~ Father, please show me what I am putting so much energy into that is not from you and what I should put more energy into, help me to chase what matters
