My Heart | Kim Chipman

S~ He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?” Numbers 20:10 (NIV)

O~ The Israelites were complaining again about not having enough good, or not delicious enough food anyway, and not enough water. You tell Moses and Aaron to speak to a rock and water will come out, but they bring a staff and strike the rock twice. Because of this You will not allow Moses and Aaron into the Promised Land. Every time I read this my heart sinks. Moses has put up with so much to lead the people and it seems trivial to me whether he speaks to the rock or strikes it for water. But it isn’t about that. It’s about his heart. Always. You say it’s because he didn’t trust You enough to honor You as holy in the sight of the Israelites.

A~ Oh, how I see myself in this! I feel like this time I finally get it! He stood in front of them and said “must we bring you water out of this rock?” But they weren’t really doing it, You were. There was a shift in Moses’ heart that make it about HIM and not about You.

Oh my this is ME in my heart towards my kids!! Must I do this for you, again ungrateful children? When in reality it is ALL from You. ALL of it. I’m not doing it. Oh, how I needed to understand this! My heart needs adjusting!

P~ Thank You for Your Word! Thank You for helping me SEE what needs to change in my heart. Help me to remember and think different thoughts and have a reverent heart posture. I love You!

What Are My Responses Saying About You? | Michelle Myers

S~ But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, ‘Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.’ Numbers 20:12 (NIV)

O~ You are punishing Moses for not following Your command.  Moses was supposed to speak to the rock.  Out of frustration, he hit the rock instead. The truth is, the Israelites were difficult to deal with.  They were lazy.  They complained a lot.  They blamed Moses, the man who is trying to help them, for many of their problems.  They were pretty dramatic.  All of this, obviously is a sign that their faith in You was weak.

Yet, Moses’ lack of obedience was also a sign of weak faith, as well as, weak leadership.  You set Moses apart, for a special assignment.  He was to carry himself in a different way, and lead by example.  His example was meant to honor You, and show the weak in faith Israelites, something different.

A~ How I respond to situations, is a direct reflection of how much faith I have in You.  You don’t want me to be fake about it, and pretend that everything is “gumdrops and lollipops”. That isn’t faith, it is more denial.  You also don’t want me to be overly consumed and paralyzed by worry and fear.  That is denying Your sovereignty and goodness.

There are so many just crappy obstacles in life.  Yet, it is through my connection with You, that I am able to endure these obstacles.  How I act out my trust in You and honor You, is mainly and basically by paying attention to myself and my relationship with You, and then just doing the next right thing, with an attitude of faith.  Honestly, this takes disciplining my mind, to not wonder off into the abyss, or become consumed with trying to figure everything out.  It takes me disciplining myself to keep moving forward, despite my feelings or motivation.

P~ God, I am so thankful for my relationship with You. Please help me stay disciplined enough, to stay focused on You and keep moving forward, so that my faith in You will honor You.  Help me lead by example a life that says, “I know YOU have got this!”.
