Heartful Progress | Michelle Myers

S~ So we rebuilt the wall till all of it reached half its height, for the people worked with all their heart.  Nehemiah 4:6 (NIV)

O/A~ Since quitting my job four years ago, I have learned to appreciate more and more the work that I am doing at home and for my family.  It took me awhile to get here.  I am able to view more of what I do, for You.  That helps me do it with a better heart, and put all my heart into it.

I have also learned that, just like when I was teaching, I need to find the balance between flexibility and productivity.  Some scheduled activities can be rearranged, some not.  I need to be purposeful, because there are many days, I just really don’t feel like doing something.

I often put my whole heart into my work. Meals still get burned or are done later than I like.  I still get lost driving my kids from one place to another.  Things still go wrong. They always will.  Yet, you are much more concerned with my heart when they do.  You are much more concerned with where I am putting my trust, when they do.  I am still a work in progress.  I always will be.  Yet, I am way more patient and calm than I used to be.  I am better at not feeling like I have to micromanage the whole world.  I am better at asking and accepting help from other people and You.  All of this in many ways, is a deeper, more important form of success, than how the task turns out.

P~ Thank you God for your patience with me.  When I am struggling and feeling like I am not making any progress, please keep reminding me to look at where I came from and where I was, when I started this journey with You.  Please help me remember that it is a marathon, not a sprint!

Don’t be Afraid, Fight! | Kim Chipman

S~ After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” Nehemiah 4:14 (NIV)

O~ Nehemiah is leading the rebuilding of the wall around Jerusalem. They were continually under attack from people who didn’t want to see Jerusalem rebuilt. He stationed guards and encouraged the people to not be afraid and to fight for their families.

A~ This advice couldn’t be more timely than for us right now. I’m looking at the choices for President and I’m a bit sad. Disappointed really. One look at the news and it feels like we are under attack from every side.

This advice – written my Nehemiah 2500(ish) years ago – totally applies today.

*Don’t be afraid of them

*Remember the Lord who is great and awesome

*Fight for your families

P~ Lord, this sounds so simple, but oh, so hard to do sometimes. Fear comes naturally. Help me to remember You, choose faith over fear, and fight for my family. Sometimes I get tired of the fight – be my strength! I love You!
