God Is Good | Joni Tyner
S~ Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. James 1:17 (NLT)
O~ James, the brother of Jesus is the author of James. He is reminding us that God can ONLY give good and perfect gifts. It is against His character to ever change and act in a way that is anything other than good.
A~ I’ve been in church my whole life. I was raised in the Lutheran domination and later chose to worship in different non-domination churches throughout the past 25 years. I think anyone who has been in church has heard the phrase, “God is good”— yet do we really, really believe that? Do we hear this so often that we lose sight of exactly what that means? This verse is reminding us of this truth— that God CAN NOT change His character and ever do anything that is bad or mean or harsh.
Try and let that sink in. God can only give the gifts of love and goodness—everything else comes from the Enemy.
…and everything bad and painful on this earth. It isn’t God—it is our Enemy that is at the root of everything negative. Satan uses people as his puppets to stir up pain and hatred which in turn causes MORE pain and hatred. It’s how he builds his kingdom of darkness. Hate and evil actions quickly cause a ripple effect of more evil and pain, I think he sits back and laughs at how easily he can corrupt one person’s mind and it can cause a ripple effect of crazy portions. My application today is to remember that when I see bad actions from people or events that leave pain and suffering, that this is NOT from God.
P~ Dear Lord, I choose You!!!! I want to be controlled by the Holy Spirit and chose goodness and love and compassion and forgiveness. Please forgive me for sometimes feeling helpless and wondering why there is so much bad in this world—I am reminded today that when I see or hear harsh things, that this is NOT from You. I pray for Your powerful Spirit to hoover over areas of our country that have anger and hatred and that Your people will rise up and show that Love wins every time.
