For the Kingdom | Robin Laney
S~ But God does not take away life; instead, He devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from Him. 2 Samuel 14:14b (NIV)
O~ A woman is sent by Joab to David to convince him to reconcile with his son, Absalom, who has been banished for killing his brother. She reminds David that God’s love for us, as our Father, is so great that He devises plans for us to be nearer to Him in order to allow our broken relationship with Him to heal. He doesn’t distance Himself from us when we go astray. He doesn’t push us out of His sight so He doesn’t have to deal with us but, instead, pulls us in closer, arranges for us to hear Him and see Him, and offers opportunities for us to turn back to Him. Reconciliation is His goal.
A~ Relationships can be difficult and hurtful. Disappointments, betrayals, conflicts and unmet expectations can leave us exhausted and empty. Human nature, many times, leads us to put our guards up, protect ourselves from future hurts, rid our lives of the people who cause us pain. It seems easiest, sometimes, to simply end the relationship and move on. Out of sight, out of mind. Pour into the relationships that enrich our lives, the ones that build us up instead of drag us down. Dump the mess, burn the bridges, move on to greener pastures. It’s easier and better for us.
Fortunately, for us, that is not what God does with us when we disappoint Him, betray Him, fight against His ways and fail to live up to His expectations. He doesn’t shun us. He makes plans for us to be within His grasp. He offers opportunities for us to hear Him and see Him whether that be through words spoken to us by those He places in our lives or the circumstances we encounter. He might make Himself known to us in a song or a story or the beauty of nature. We might sense His presence in the hug of a good friend or the smile of a stranger. His heart for us always causes Him to pull us in closer not push us from His sight.
He longs for reconciliation with us and our hearts should long for peace with one another. God doesn’t discard us when we disappoint Him. We are each so dearly loved and highly valued that He sacrificed His Son so that we might spend eternity with Him. We, in turn, should be willing to sacrifice a bit of ourselves for each other for the sake of reconciliation, peace and, ultimately salvation.
P~ Lord, help us to see each other as you see us. Give us your eyes and your heart for people. When we are hurt, remind us not to turn our backs on those who offend us but, instead, lean in toward them in love always seeking reconciliation and peace for the sake of the Kingdom.

S~ But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him. 2 Samuel 14:14 (NIV)
O/A~ There is a lot of drama surrounding why Absalom fled. He killed his brother, who had raped his sister a few years ago. It is like a soap opera. However, there are many ways in which You bring about the loss of people from our lives…..firm boundaries that require keeping unhealthy people at a distance, divorce, death, relocation, etc.
It is hard to see or understand through the loss and pain, that it is part of Your plan. You aren’t doing it to punish us. You do it to bring us closer to You.
P~ Thank you God for giving me this hard lesson. At the time, it stunk. It was painful and confusing. Yet, I know that I would not be where I am today or have the relationship I have with You today, had You not.

S~ You also must be ready all the time. For the Son of Man will come when least expected. Who is a faithful, sensible servant, to whom the master can give the responsibility of managing his household and feeding his family? Matthew 24:44,45 (NLT)
O~ This chapter speaks of things that will happen in the end times, which (not gonna lie) caused me to panic some. Then my two verses remind me of what to focus on, being ready for His return is simply being busy with his work…following him.
A~ I want to be counted as faithful. I need to stay humble before you and stay connected and be faithful.
P~ Dear Father, help me to remain faithful and be busy with what you have for me until Jesus comes back for us.

S~ Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. Matthew 24:12 (NLT)
O~ When Jesus tells us of the end times, is so disheartening. People hating each other, persecution, deception. Well, sounds like we are already there.
A~ Jesus said this time period on earth will be filled with such anguish, that no one would survive. So the time period was shortened because of God’s people.
What if I’m part of this end? I don’t want my love to grow cold like it says in this verse. If not me, what about my kids, and the generations that follow from me? I don’t want the love inside of them to grow cold.
P~ Father, it’s a scary time that Jesus is talking about! I don’t want to stick my head in the sand and ignore it. I pray for a hedge of protection around Your followers at the end. Lord, gird them, give them strength that surpasses their own. Give them eyes to see truth, wisdom to get and understand Your Word. Make Your people warriors! Lord, give them a sense of: to live is Christ, to die is gain. Let the truth that nothing can separate them from You sink deep into their souls.
Father, the people that come from me: my kids, grandkids, and on and on….please make them dangerous warriors for Your Kingdom. Warriors that are so closely connected with their King, they don’t move off the path that You have set out for them. Thank You! Lord, let me love tangibly right now. I pray all this in Jesus’ Name.
