Separate and Apart | Kelley DeAses
S~ Then the angel of God, who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from in front and stood behind them, coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long. Exodus 14:19-20 (NIV)
O~ Sometimes God calls us to “Go and make disciples of all nations.” He calls us to be salt and light in a fallen and dark world. He calls us to testify about what He has done is our lives. But other times he steals us away and offers us secluded comfort and protection.
A~ This picture of how God positioned His angel and the pillar of cloud between the fleeing Israelites and the advancing Egyptian army brought to mind the provision God has extended to my college boy as he is making his way as a first-year student far from home. We were initially distraught to discover some less-than-wholesome activities which seemed to be pervasive on his university campus. But just about the time my son was ready to jump ship and find a more devout Christian school, he felt the Lord urge him to remain. God provided him solace and protection in the way of people and ministry opportunities which came onto his radar. With a solid band of like minded brothers and sisters in Christ for accountability and support, he can much more easily stand against the darkness.
P~ Father, I know Your hand is upon my son’s life. Continue to reveal Your Presence, Your Protection, and Your Vision to keep his spirits uplifted and guide him in the way You would have him go.
Rest Is A Gift | Kim Chipman
S~ They must realize that the Sabbath is the Lord’s gift to you. That is why he gives you a two-day supply on the sixth day, so there will be enough for two days. On the Sabbath day you must each stay in your place. Do not go out to pick up food on the seventh day. Exodus 16:29 (NLT)
O~ The Israelites were complaining about not having enough food. God promised to provide “just enough” (v18) manna each morning and quail each evening. What they needed just fell from the sky, just enough for each, and a double portion on the 6th day to allow a day of rest.
A~ I’m not good at rest. When I rest I fell guilty. I’m in this season right now of restructuring my life with a healthy rhythm. I lived in survival mode for a season, then I just didn’t pace myself well for awhile…then you had me clear off my plate completely for a season…now, it’s time to intentionally pattern my life in a rhythm that is healthy and sustainable. Life is a marathon, not a sprint.
You give rest as a gift. I’m going to receive Your gift and put it on my calendar. Your ways are best.
P~ Thank You for Your Word to lead and guide me. Thank You for showing me how to prioritize and pattern my life to bring You glory. Thank You for the gift of rest.
No Restrictions | Susan Aken
S~ And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Acts 2:21 (NIV)
O~ Peter is speaking to the crowds after the believers have been filled with the Holy Spirit. He is explaining what has happened and calling people to believe. Then he speaks some of the greatest words ever written.
A~ The truth if this verse makes it the greatest truth ever written down. Everyone – meaning any race, any nationality, any gender, any age, of any ability, poor or rich, of any time period in history – anyone and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord (in belief) WILL be saved. Glorious news! We don’t have to earn it, achieve it, deserve it or work for it – we just have to believe and trust.
P~ Thank you Jesus for being the Good News that saves the world! Thank you for the truth that anyone can come to you. Thank you for saving me. Please let your light shine into this world and help people see what the Gospel really is – their salvation and hope.
